Perisher Activities

One of the lovely things about Perisher compared to Thredbo is that the villages are above the snowline, so it opens up more on-snow activities such as cross country skiing and snowplay.

Perisher Backcountry Ski Tours and Splitboard Tours

Guthega is a gateway to various backcountry skiing opportunities. Snowy Mountains Backcountry offer a range of tours that start at introductory backcountry tours to learn some of the basics of ski touring or splitboarding, to full day Main Range tours that vary a little with respect to duration and energy required.

Cross Country Skiing Perisher

Perisher has a vast array of cross country trails. The main trail head of the Perisher cross country network is located opposite the day car park at Perisher Valley, where there are short groomed loops that branch out to an extensive network of groomed trails. Slightly further afield to the west and east are various X-country trails that are not groomed.

There are also a few short trails around Smiggin Holes and Mt Piper.

It’s also possible to head from Perisher Valley to Charlotte Pass via the road which is closed to cars during winter, but the ruts from the oversnow vehicles can be a bastard, so touring skis rather than skating skis might be your weapon of choice.

Wilderness Sports offer cross country ski lessons.

Snowshoeing Perisher

Perisher Valley has some dedicated snowshoe trails near Front Valley and you can also venture over Piper towards Smiggins.

In addition to cross country ski lessons, Wilderness Sports offer snowshoe tours.

Snowy Mountains Backcountry also offer Perisher snowshoe tours that range from a relatively easy half day walk, to tours that head well into the backcountry. Meeting points are at Perisher Valley or Guthega.

Kids Activities Perisher

Activities that are great for children or the big kids are centred around general snow play.

Like most ski resorts, tobogganing is not permitted on the ski resort slopes or anywhere near them. At Perisher, there is a dedicated toboggan and snowplay area on Pipers Ridge near the car parking along the road, which is marked as Tube Town on Perisher maps. You should be joined by hundreds of others that have flocked there to slide on the snow. Other general entertainment is provided via people watching and enjoyment at some of the inappropriate snow outfits that adorn the snowplay area.

Tobogganing is not permitted at Blue Cow so don’t try to take your toboggan on the Skitube between Perisher Valley and Blue Cow.

A tradition for Saturday night fun is the fireworks, which is run in conjunction with the night skiing on Front Valley.

Relaxation

If you’re in need of some ultimate relaxation, there is a day spa at the Man from Snowy River Hotel. Otherwise there are a few mobile massage services that provide massages at Perisher. If day spa relaxation is a major priority, it could be worth staying down at the Lake Crackenback Resort and Spa.
