Where is Deer Valley?

The Deer Valley Ski Resort is located in Park City Utah and only 1.5 miles from downtown Park City (Main Street), which is situated only 31 miles east of downtown SLC and 37 miles (59km) from the Salt Lake City Airport.

Salt Lake City Airport to Deer Valley

Flights into the Salt Lake City International Airport are frequent. The drive from the airport only takes 40-60 minutes by road depending upon conditions, so the Deer Valley Ski Resort is very accessible.

From the airport there are a wide range of ground transportation companies to take you to Deer Valley.

Driving to Deer Valley

Alternatively there are lots of car rental options at the airport. When driving from the airport, the route is incredibly well sign posted and is via I-80 and highway 224. If driving to the upper parts of Deer Valley, the roads are somewhat steep, so you might want a 4WD.

Many Deer Valley guests don’t find it necessary to rent a car, because there are buses, on-demand hotel shuttles, and plenty of taxis to get around the area (see below). The exception to this might be if you plan to undertake lots of non-skiing activities or go cat skiing with Park City Powdercats. Another exception may be for those staying in private accommodations (e.g. condos, houses) in the upper areas of Deer Valley, where the lodging doesn’t provide its own shuttle service.

Day trippers arriving by car at the Snow Park Lodge area of Deer Valley Resort (recommended for families, beginners and those that require ski rentals) are greeted by the green men and women who assist with the unloading of the vehicles. The ski valets also help load the car at the end of the day.

Day trippers can also park at the Jordanelle parking lot, which is particularly good if you're coming from Heber City or Midway. The Jordanelle run is a double blue run, but beginners parking here have the option of downloading the Jordanelle gondola.

Buses to Deer Valley for Day Trips

There is a free bus service that provides transport between the Park City ski resorts and downtown Park City. The buses are very regular, but disappointingly on arrival to Deer Valley, the ski valets don’t extend their service to those who arrive via bus. You’ll have to carry your own skis!

Getting Between Deer Valley and Park City

Driving distances to Main Street Park City:
  • Snow Park Lodge, the main base of Deer Valley Ski Resort – 1.4 miles
  • Silver Lake Village of Deer Valley – 2.7 miles
  • Empire Pass of Deer Valley – 3 miles
To get to downtown Park City, a free bus system can be used although the frequency from the Silver Lake and Empire Pass areas is only every half hour. It is generally very reliable except during peak periods such as Xmas and Sundance when they operate on “ish” time. The bus system has routes that cover the downtown area, major hotels, the Park City ski resort bases, and the suburbs including Kimball Junction where the outlet shopping is. Your lodging is likely to have a copy of the bus schedules and maps.

Many of the opulent Deer Valley hotels and lodges offer their own private shuttle services to Park City. Alternatively there are hundreds and hundreds of taxis that are readily available.

Getting Around Deer Valley

Most Deer Valley lodging is in close proximity to one of the many lifts, so only a short walk (or ski) is required to get to the slopes. However the various lodging areas and villages of Deer Valley are rather spread out, so whilst it’s easy to get between the various areas via skiing, it’s not so easy on foot or via road.

Road distances from Snow Park Lodge (the main base area and the location of the St Regis Hotel):
To get between the Snow Park and Silver Lake and Empire Pass areas of Deer Valley, non-skiers can get a free public bus, but these only come every 30 minutes (hourly in the evenings).

Alternatively if you’re staying at one of the upscale hotels, you can use their private on-demand shuttle services to get you around.

The St Regis Hotel sits up on the hill above Snow Park Lodge with ski in ski out access via the green Deer Hollow run. The hotel has its own funicular that connects the Snow Park Lodge area with the hotel.
