Where is Mt Hood Meadows?

Meadows sits on the southeast flank of Mount Hood in Oregon. Mt Hood Meadows Ski Resort is 67 miles southeast of Portland and 70 miles SE of Vancouver in Washington State.

Mt Hood Meadows is 11 miles northeast of the village of Government Camp, and 35 miles south of the town of Hood River.

Flying

It’s most likely that you’d hit up Mt Hood as part of a bigger road trip of the PNW or western USA, but if Mt Hood was your primary destination, you could fly into Portland International Airport which is 64 miles away. Portland receives lots of direct flights from many major US airports, so flight options are abundant and relatively inexpensive.

Shuttles to Mt Hood Meadows Oregon

On weekends there are free shuttles from Hood River to Mt Hood Meadows Ski Resort.

There are various shuttles from metro Portland to Meadows that attract a fee, with more options running on weekends than weekdays.

Driving to Mt Hood Meadows

If you’re staying in the Mt Hood area for a few days, you’ll want to have a car (AWD or 4WD and definitely with snow tyres).

From Portland you can take Highway 26 to Government Camp then head north on Highway 35 for 10 miles. Or a longer but often quicker route is to drive there via Hood River and then head south along Highway 35, a road that attracts less traffic. This also avoids any potential road closures that may occur when a car without snow tyres has an accident near White River.

There are 3 huge parking lots at Mt Hood Meadows, which can get very busy on weekends. If you have beginners in your group, park at the main lot. You might need to take your ice skates!

The main parking lot includes a small space for RVs. No utilities are available and a permit is required from the resort.
