SASS Kiroro Powder Sessions

SASS Global Travel are a reputable adventure company offering snow sports tours for over a decade in Argentina and Japan.

The Kiroro Powder Sessions are 4 x 7 night tours (sessions) where you can book a single week or multiple weeks/sessions. Both adults and teens are welcome. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Solo travelers & groups are welcome to join.

The tour is based in an incredible castle located about 30 mins drive from the main ski area of Kiroro.

Kiroro Ski Resort is one of the snowiest resorts in Hokkaido, with over 600 inches of snow annually on average. Kiroro is less crowded that some of the other resorts in Hokkaido, making it easier to get to the powder. It has some great groomed runs & in-bounds tree skiing & riding, and beyond the boundary through the gates there are endless backcountry opportunities.

The aim of this tour is to introduce guests to the deepest powder known to mankind! When it is dumping with snow (which is very often), you will sometimes ski & ride around the ski area in waist to nipple deep powder (keep your pits zipped up!). As the weather conditions allow, you will exit the resort using touring gear (skins/splitboards/snowshoes) to access the limitless backcountry terrain.

Each day you will be guided by experienced and knowledgeable guides to ensure your safety and to provide the ultimate experience.

For the Jan 27th trip, you have the option of adding on some time in Tohoku. Explore More, presented by ZEAL Optics is from February 3 ~ 8, 2024 in Aomori, Japan. If you have any questions or want to check availability, you can make a booking request.

SASS Japan is right for you if:

  • You are an advanced to expert level skier or snowboarder who is capable of making consistent confident turns in trees, steep terrain, variable snow and deep powder conditions.
  • You want to experience Hokkaido with pro guides, coaches, and clients of all ages.
  • You have a desire to build backcountry skills.
  • You have a desire to step out of your comfort zone and push your limits with guidance.
  • You want to experience the Japanese culture with respect and patience.
  • You are in good physical and mental health and can enjoy skiing or riding in a group.

Equipment Required

This tour is a mix of lift-access & backcountry touring, so you will be required to have the correct equipment including an avalanche beacon, shovel and probe.

For skiers, you will need touring skis and skins or snowshoes.

For snowboarders you will require a splitboard & skins or snowshoes, and adjustable poles.

SASS Castle at the Evurando Club

SASS Kiroro Sessions are based at Hokkaido’s most unique ski lodge, a northern-European style castle near Kiroro with 22 guest rooms, two restaurants, a bar, lounge and onsen-style spa with four pools, sauna and more!

Standard packages are based on double occupancy in twin-share rooms, however private room upgrades are available for solo travelers. Or you can upgrade to a junior suite with a sitting area (some with private sauna) or even a penthouse suite which is perfect for entertaining. Please make a request for pricing if you would like to explore one of the non-standard options.

The Castle is conveniently located approximately 30 mins drive from Kiroro where you will ski most days.

Dining

Extending far beyond its famous sushi and sashimi, Japanese cuisine is delicious and incredibly varied. Dining at SASS Japan is no exception. Each SASS Japan session includes daily breakfast and dinner, along with the farewell barn party event.

Breakfast at the castle includes Japanese and North American favorites. Massive tables lay out scores of eggs, breakfast meats, soup, ramen, coffee, juices, greens, snacks and much more.

Dinner at the castle includes an extensive buffet featuring an array of appetizers, greens, soup and entree options including grill specialties, “fresh catch” local fish (Hokkaido is renowned for its seafood) and a vegetarian option each night.

SASS is proud to offer alternate event dinner events on some nights, including the farewell barn party hosted by a local family. SASS also coordinates independent visits to KONTON pub and local ramen shops for clients that are interested.
