Aizu doesn’t boast the largest snowfalls in Japan, however the consistently cold temperatures and lack of crowds will almost always provide fresh snow for the taking.

Ski Areas
The Aizu region offers a great mix of ski areas, all within easy reach of the hotel. Your guide will choose the best ski area each day based on weather and snow conditions.
- Nekoma – One of the larger ski resorts in Japan. This mountain has a large variety of terrain with many zones to explore all around a gorgeous volcano.
- Inawashiro – Wide open runs with stunning lake views and some delicious side country for those willing to venture into the trees.
- Minowa – A secret gem that will be reopening after many years. Rated very highly by Powderhounds this one is well under the radar having been off the map for so long.
- Grandeco – A high elevation resort with consistent snowfall and more modern infrastructure. Grandeco is always a safe pick for a great day on the slopes.
Group
This is a mixed group trip that welcomes solo travellers, couples, friend groups and families. Group sizes are kept small with a maximum guide to client ratio of 1:5 to ensure a personalised experience, with guides tailoring each day to suit the group’s ability and goals.
Who is the Aizu Escape Suited to?
This trip is ideal for intermediate skiers and snowboarders who are looking to improve their skills in powder and off-piste conditions or just want soft groomers with no lift lines.
It’s also well suited to powder hounds that love to explore new zones. With even the ‘secret’ zones of Tohoku seeing a surge in popularity, Aizu is truly the secret, uncrowded area.
If you have any questions about your ability level,
please get in contact.
If you’re looking for a big party scene, this probably isn’t the trip for you. You’ll be staying in rural areas where the focus will be on Japanese culture and skiing powder.
Equipment
A powder-friendly setup is recommended to make the most of the conditions. Skis with 90-110 underfoot or a snowboard suited to deeper snow will enhance your experience.
Helmets are required, and you should bring appropriate clothing for cold conditions, typically ranging from -5°C to -20°C.
If you plan to explore beyond the groomed runs, an avalanche safety kit (beacon, shovel, probe) is recommended and can be arranged if needed.
