Central Hokkaido
Ski waist deep powder, summit volcanoes, take a soak in the natural hot springs and enjoy great food; these are just some of the highlights of this tour.
Don’t expect to be in one place for the entire trip. The trip starts in Furano where there are various zones to explore including Ashibetsu, Tomamu and Furano slackcountry when the conditions are prime. The second part of the trip is based in Asahikawa and on the way there, you'll head deep into the Hokkaido backcountry to explore the famed Tokachidake backcountry zones. The city of Asahikawa offers plenty of dining options for the evenings, whilst during the day you'll explore mountains such as Asahidake and Kurodake and some little secret backcountry zones.
Aurora Backcountry has more than a dozen seasons experience guiding in Hokkaido’s backcountry, so you can be certain you will be skiing the best and deepest Hokkaido has to offer.
These tours operate in late January and February for the longer days and more stable weather. This gives you more daylight to ski bigger objectives while experiencing the same quality of Hokkaido's famous powder snow.
Ideally these tours are suited to PRIVATE GROUPS who all have similar fitness & ability. However you may apply as a SOLO TRAVELLER or SMALL GROUP to see if you can be matched with an existing group.

Ability & Fitness
This tour is suited to
high-intermediate to advanced skiers & snowboarders (in powder, not on-piste) who are happy to earn their turns. Whilst lifts will be used in some cases to gain elevation, this is primarily a backcountry tour.
Participants should have a
very good level of fitness and be able to
achieve 1,500m of vertical ascent per day and
ideally have some backcountry experience.
All participants must have their own equipment and know how to use it.
Backcountry Equipment Required
Aurora Backcountry strongly encourage you to bring as little as
possible. During travel days all the luggage has to be able to
fit into the vans, so if you have too
much stuff this can be difficult and very
uncomfortable with 6 people.
Here is a list of what touring equipment the guides recommend that you
bring:

- Skins

Backpack Stuff
- Transceiver
