This was a delightful Japanese hotel. It was nothing super fancy but then it didn’t attract fancy tariffs either and provided a refreshing Japanese experience.

A major plus was the onsen. The segregated public baths were not particularly large but very nice. The indoor baths were old-school whilst the lovely outdoor baths looked like they’d had a recent upgrade. We also used one of the private baths which was pretty decadent. As we couldn’t reserve a time and it just had a simple key system, we had to wait in the lounge for a little while, but it was free to use, which isn’t the case at a lot of onsen hotels.

We stayed in a king room, which is somewhat unique in Japan, and it was well sized and had a bolt on bathroom. The pillows provided were so un-Japanese and just a soft fluff of nothing, so we asked for additional pillows which then did the trick. The furniture and bedspread were a bit dated, but for the price we paid (we got a special on Booking.com) it was a bargain. Another minor limitation was a lack of power points because there were so many lamps and appliances plugged in, but that was quickly remedied.

Breakfast was pretty good. We liked that it had a Japanese set menu with various little items for tasting, or we could just go with eggs, bacon, curry and rice, croissant and cereal when feeling a little less adventurous.

The reception staff spoke some English and provided a comprehensive information sheet in English on check-in and they were very friendly and helpful.
