We stayed at the Powderhorn Lodge in Solitude for 6 nights and loved it. Super close walk to the main lifts and it was awesome being able to go back in for lunch to save money on leftovers. Unfortunately we went during a very dry period and didn’t receive an inch of snow while we were there which was quite disappointing. I still gave them a 3 however because I’m well aware of the incredibly deep snow that Solitude typically gets. We rode at Solitude on a Thursday and a Saturday and to be honest both days were totally empty. As far as the lifts go, most of the lifts you lap consistently are fast 4 seat express lifts. The sunrise lift was painfully slow so we only rode that one once. Aside from that the lifts weren’t anything special, no bubbles or gondolas or anything like that.
Piste trails were very fun at solitude, partly because theres so many to choose from. Any blue off of Apex, Eagle or Summit was a ton of fun. And because solitude is a little bit lower elevation than brighton, on some of the days when the temps got up to about 32 or 33 Solitude was able to soften up and get a bit slushy and make for some better riding. Off-piste at Solitude was excellent and because it warmed up a bit more there we were actually able to ride some of it. I was disappointed that the Fantasy Ridge Hike was closed the entire time we were there so we were never able to ride any of that and we also only did 1 lap in the Honeycomb Canyon area.
The Solitude resort seemed very good for people with children. Lots of green areas for beginners and an awesome village base with places for kids to play. Not a whole lot of nightlife at solitude, its kind of a more family place. I would definitely recommend Solitude to others. And I hope to revisit again when they actually get some snow.

Good alternative to the Little Cottonwood for skiers

This is a great mountain. For skiers, I view it as a little brother to Alta and Snowbird. If those mountains sound too intense for you but SLC powder is on your agenda, this is your spot. This does not mean the mountain is necessarily easy, it just doesn't offer the challenge of Alta-Bird. But it is also much less crowded. If you're traveling, spend your weekends here and your weekdays at Alta-Bird. That said, the Summit Express can get jammed as it accesses so much of the great terrain. But this leaves the Eagle Express relatively empty, and whether you are traveling down there mix of blacks and blues or entering into Navarone, this is a fun area.

I didn't hike anywhere on the mountain, which could up its ante no doubt. I also was unable to get too many ride on the Summit Express due to the crowds, so I'm forcing my off-piste score higher to reflect all of the terrain I missed out on.

We spent years at the Canyons, Park City and Deer Valley but after skiing Solitude once we decided never to go back. Solitude gets more snow than Park City and THERE ARE NO LINES. The terrain is also amazing. Honeycomb canyon is unmatched in terms of its powder and length. We’re now going to Solitude every year.

Of the 4 resorts in the canyons close to Salt Lake City Solitude falls short.
Vertical skis very small compared to neighbors. Your best bet is Eagle lift
Honeycomb canyon is so overrated. Yes, you get untracked deep snow, but mainly in 200'-500' vertical descend if you are lucky. I will take 1500' vert powder a mile away at Snowbird's Mineral basin any day!

I want this place all to myself! OK, the lifts are a little slow and clunky, but you’ll be skiing right on to them, so who cares? Alta is a bettter mountain, but there are some really good lines here and you don’t have to traverse as much to get to them. Utah powder without having it skied out by noon, even with snowboards, that’s my kind of place.

Uncrowded Pow

I have visited Solitude for a week in both Jan 2017 and Jan 2018. In each case, we have scored copious amounts of dry, light snow.

If it snows and you are staying in the village (and are not a ski sloth), get in line for the Apex at 8:30. Jump on the Apex lift right at 9 and go warp speed down to the Powderhorn lift. At the top, you can choose to either crank freshies in the bowl next to the Powderhorn or, if it's open, jump through the gate and get the Milk Run steeps. (The best thing about this plan is that the day skiers park at Moonbeam and they can't get to the Apex or Powderhorn right off the bat.)

Once the summit opens, head for Headwall forest and plunder that repeatedly. If it's snowing most likely Honeycomb won't open until they can do Avi mitigation. Once Honeycomb opens, suck it up, get ready to side-step, and hit the high traverse. Keep going past the Pinnacle rock (1/4 mile or so of traversing)and revel in the pow out near the Boundry Chutes. The other side of Honeycomb (Black Forest, Navarone, Here Be Dragons, etc.)offers up some seriously great skiing as well. Seems like a cliché, but Honeycomb always seems to offer up pow several days after a storm.

For a change, hike up the in-bounds Evergreen peak and have a blast with the steep, sometimes technical terrain on the Sol-Bright side.

As for lodging, we stay at Eagle Springs East (two bedroom and we put people on the couch). We buy groceries in SLC prior to heading up Canyon. Saves some dough over eating out.

The name describes it perfectly. Solitude. 9 times out of ten I rode the chair on my own, that's how few people were there even with good conditions. This place is peaceful and serene with amazing trails. The people were genuine, both the people working there and people I met on the slopes. My favorite resort in Salt Lake

Great resort. Definitely for more experienced riders. I am an intermediate boarder and there are some serious vertical slopes at this place. When I went it was blowing like 30mph and was almost blizzard status. Slopes are great, accommodations are great. Price is good.

We did a half day here the morning of our return flight to DC. Probably the 3rd best out of Brighton, Snowbird, and Park City. Pretty good snow, fairly challenging (blacks were equivalent to double blacks on the East Coast), plenty of off-piste jumps and alpine runs, and cliffs in a few spots. One of the blacks was just about the steepest run I've seen...short...but very steep.

Had a great time here, and of all the swag shops, the one here had some amazing crap to buy. I got a really sweet hoodie (on sale!) that I proudly wear to show my love for this place.

Good size, not huge, you can cover the mountain in a day.
