Remarkables Facilities & Services

Southern Lakes Heli Skiing
The facilities and services at The Remarkables Ski Resort are mostly contained within the one modern building at the base of the ski area. The day lodge looks rather striking and the decks and eating areas upstairs offer intoxicating views (or is that just the après ski drinks?!). Downstairs the day lodge houses ski school, a retail shop, lockers, ski and snowboard hire, and an equipment workshop.

The Remarkables Ski Hire and Snowboard Rental

The Remarkables ski hire and snowboard rental shop is located downstairs in the day lodge and they hire out recreational and performance skis and snowboards, and boots. It is much more expensive to rent equipment on the hill compared to Queenstown ski hire, but it provides the advantage of being able to swap equipment if it’s not right, or even swap between skis and a snowboard. The other advantage is that you don’t have to carry your gear up the mountain and can store it overnight for free. And if you’re worried that renting on-mountain will reduce your flexibility to sample Coronet Peak as well, no fear, as you can return your equipment there if you wish.

Of course there's also the option of ski hire Queenstown if you want cheaper rates.

Facilities for Children

The Remarkables no longer offers a crèche.

The Remarkables Ski School

Kids aged 4 and above can go to ski and snowboard school, and children from the age of 8 can have snowboard tuition. Kids ski school is for half or full day programs, although parents have to come back to get the kids for the lunch break.

Group lessons (duration 1:50 hours) for youths and adults are available in the morning and afternoon. The Remarkables also have Black Diamond clinics for advanced skiers and snowboarders to work on skills in all terrain conditions including powder, park, crud, bumps and steeps.

The Remarkables ski school also offers a range of combo packs that are largely tailored to beginners. Private lessons are also an option in 1, 2, 3 and 6 hour blocks.

Eating On-Mountain

The caféteria is located on the top level of the base building, offering a variety of food options from big (and pricey) cooked meals laden with chips to healthy and inexpensive grab and go fare. They also sell coffees and have a liquor license if you want a beer or wine. The day lodge has a nice big open fireplace, which is rather nice. The Remarkables very proudly have free wifi available in the eating area, but good luck trying to get it to work at times when the place isn’t deserted.

There is no specific brown baggers area but it seems that lots of people just picnic wherever.

The large deck outside the café is the highlight of the dining area, and it is the perfect place to perch and enjoy the sunshine, the amazing views and some après ski drinks. Of course considering there's no on-mountain accommodation at The Remarkables, après festivities don't last for long and most people head into town for the famous Queenstown nightlife.

Mid-mountain is the Ice Bar where you can lounge about and have a bevvie. It’s not aptly named though with the tiniest little square of ice that they serve drinks off!

The Remarkables Shop

There is a retail shop at The Remarkables selling very basic ski and snowboard related gear including helmets, goggles, gloves, ski poles and a few sundries. The shop also sells a few “The Remarkables” souvenirs including some ugly T-shirts and hoodies and a few cute baby jumpsuits.

If you need to make a substantial purchase or hardwear, try one of the Queenstown ski shops.
