About Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise on the shores of the lake of the same name, is the luxurious gem of Lake Louise. This huge Lake Louise hotel resort has all the modern conveniences and trimmings, combined with old world elegance and the charm of the building and décor, and the picturesque lakeside setting.

Where is the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise?

The hotel resides on the shores of Lake Louise which is frozen during winter and a fabulous place to go ice skating. The chateau is located about 7km from the Lake Louise Ski Resort, and 4km from the little village of Lake Louise.

There are complimentary shuttles from the chateau to the ski resort every hour on the half hour and also an 8am departure.

See the Lake Louise Alberta travel page for information on the location of Lake Louise.

The chateau has a range of hotel rooms for up to 2 to 4 guests, many with views of the lake and the Victoria Glacier, and some rooms have a window seat where you can fully take in the vistas.

The view from our room
Some of the ice sculptures out the front of the hotel
Lovely picture windows in the Lakeview Lounge
The ski area looks close but it's a 7km drive away
Our stay at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise was very special. Despite its enormity, it’s an incredibly romantic and dreamy spot.

We stayed in a standard room with a lake view. The views were amazingly lovely, although surprisingly the window wasn’t very big so you had to go and stand in front of the window to get the view. We liked the elegant décor and it was very comfortable, albeit rather small.

Wandering around out the front of the hotel where there were ice sculptures was gorgeous, and the Lakeview Lounge was also one of our favourite places to hang out. The views across the lake were just mesmerising.

We also dined at Walliser Stube, which featured fantastic fondues. The sommelier was very impressive but the waiter provided overly attentive service and kept interrupting us in the middle of conversation (Waiting 101).

Whilst the accommodation itself provides reasonable value for money, be prepared to drop a lot of coin if you want to eat and drink at the Chateau Lake Louise. Even at the “casual” Lakeview Lounge, it costs a small fortune.

Nevertheless it’s definitely worth treating yourself to a stay at the Chateau.
