Green Kiwi Snow - New for 2025

This awesome winter adventure through the Southern Alps is short but sweet as. The Green Kiwi Snow trip allows you to pack in plenty and see some of the best ski fields of the South Island of New Zealand. The skiing and snowboarding is only on weekday to avoid the crowds, and it skips the busiest of ski fields so you have more time on the slopes.

This road trip is hosted by a local guide who will drive you around, give you an orientation to each ski field, ensure your lodging is sorted, and provide support for other logistics.

The Green Kiwi Snow trip starts and finishes in the city of Christchurch, and has two other bases in the towns of Tekapo and Wanaka. Ski fields that you'll likely visit are Mt Hutt, Ohau, Cardrona, Treble Cone, and Roundhill.

If you want to double check availability or have any other questions, please get in contact.

Itinerary

The tour starts and finishes in Christchurch.

Arrival Day

The group will meet on Sunday night for your included welcome dinner and drink at the hotel restaurant. Your tour leader will go over the schedule at dinner and what to expect for the awesome adventure ahead!

Day 1 - Mt Hutt

  • Mt Hutt is the local ski field of your host, so he knows it like the back of his hand.
  • It was easily the most consistent for snow fall last season, recieving a total of 320cm of powder and boasts amazing views out to Christchurch, the Canterbury Plains and Pacific Ocean.
  • If you need a lesson to refresh your skills, their instructors are truly world class.
  • Your host will drive you to the town of Tekapo to check into the hotel.

Day 2 - Ohau

  • Deep in the interior sits Ohau Snow Field. In 2023 Ohau was stoked to welcome a 1 metre snow storm! With a super relaxed club field vibe, awesome home cooked kai and great terrain, there’s something for everyone.
  • If conditions are right, hike up and slash some pow on the epic ‘Ridge Run’.
  • The host will drive you to the town of Wanaka where you'll stay for the next 2 nights.

Day 3 Cardrona

  • Known by the locals are ‘Cardies’, Cardrona has recently become NZ’s biggest ski area with a whopping 600+ hectares of ridable terrain.
  • Cardrona is the most comprehensive field on the trip, boasting 8 chair lifts, world class park runs and awesome riding on and off piste.

Day 4 - Treble Cone

  • Treble Cone is well known for its gnarly off piste terrain, attracting many free skiers and riders. For the more relaxed skiers and riders, dont sweat, there are cruisy runs too! You may have to pinch yourself looking out to the vast mountain vistas and Lake Wanaka. It is a stunning location!
  • Your host will drive you back up to the town of Tekapo.

Day 5 - Roundhill

  • Largely overlooked by tourists, Roundhill is a classic club field with many friendly kiwis keen to chat. It has lovely rolling slopes towered by the Heritage Express, the steepest and longest rope tow in the world! When open, this rope tow gives Roundhill the largest vertical drop in Australasia!
  • After some fun on the snow, you'll be driven back to Christchurch to finish up the tour at the hotel
If the ski field is closed due to weather factors, a nearby alternative will be sourced, yet if weather has also impacted that ski field, guests will be refunded the portion related to that day and an alternative activity sourced.
