About Alta Peruvian Lodge

The Alta Peruvian Lodge at Alta Ski Resort - great food, great ski culture, and great ambience. The Alta Peruvian is full of character and charm, and the culture of the lodge well represents the soul of skiing. The Peruvian almost has its own village within one building. Other than to ski, you probably don’t need to leave this building on your ski holiday as it has plenty of facilities and a ready-made social life.

The Alta Peruvian Lodge has an interesting history in that the building used to be a world war II nurses’ barracks that was transported up the mountain and re-connected to form a ski lodge.

Where is the Alta Peruvian Located?

The Peruvian is located a little way over from the Wildcat base at Alta Utah and is sort of ski-in ski-out, but it depends on various factors. The Wildcat base is a short 3 minute walk across the car park, or if the trail is well groomed you can tuck and just skate the last 10 seconds. On the way home, expert skiers can ski down the Wildcat Bowl and tuck the last 20 metres. Non-expert skiers can either walk the 3 minutes back from the Wildcat base, or catch the free lodge shuttle bus.

Lodge Rooms

The Alta Peruvian Lodge has various room styles including dorm rooms, twin rooms with shared bath (but own vanity and basin), queen and twin rooms with private bath, and suites. All rooms have internet access. The rooms aren’t opulent, but ooze simplistic rustic charm. Some of them are quite small, but considering the good rates and the little time you’ll spend in your room, you won’t mind the cosiness.

Facilities

The rest of the lodge is far from plain, and the décor feels a little luxurious albeit homely and old-fashioned. The lounge is a social place where you can partake in BYO après, play board games and enjoy the views. There is also a gigantic television room, grand piano, ski rental/repair workshop, laundry facilities, table tennis, and the list goes on and on. The ski shop stocks beer, ski clothing and accessories, and Alta souvenirs, and it’s likely that you’ll pick up a good bargain here. And if you haven’t appreciated the Alta mountain vistas enough, you can get some more eye candy in the outdoor pool and hot tub, an amazingly social way to soak the tired muscles.

The upstairs bar opens at 4:30pm and can be a buzzing from après ski time into the evening. It’s a very cosy, cool bar, and is a favourite with the locals.

Dining

Three meals a day in the restaurant are included in the rates. Breakfast and lunch are buffet-style and are very nice, but dinner is a smashingly gastronomical delight. You’ll have to ski hard to work off all the delicious calories you’ll consume in the restaurant. A four course a la carte meal includes mouth-watering dishes that the chef can only be congratulated for. Topped off with great wine, attentive service and colorful company around the family-sized tables, the dinner experience is amazing.

Why Stay at the Alta Peruvian Lodge?

This traditional lodge, the shared dining and the social environment of the Alta Peruvian is quintessentially Alta. The Peruvian has an enchanting romance about it. Stay there and you will fall in love with the place.

Old school ski lodge, many guests return annually

16/05/2017
The Peruvian is an old school ski lodge with a unique ambiance. For me it's a touchstone and I try to go back every year. Wonderful lobby with a big fireplace and comfortable furniture and board games and puzzles, communal dining and very good food, movie nights, friendly staff, knowledgeable and helpful ski tuning and rental shop offering higher end skis right on site, heated outdoor pool and apres ski jacuzzi, fun bar upstairs. None of this description does the place justice, it's not about the amenities, it's about the ambiance and the energy of the place. If you like the Four Seasons/Ritz Carlton type super luxury resort style this may not be the place for you, but if you want an old school ski lodge experience (think black and white ski photos from the 1940s) the Peruvian is a bucket list destination. Many of the guests you meet at dinner will say that they have been coming to the Peruvian every year for 11 years straight, or for 15 years straight, etc. I've been going for 25 years! It goes without saying that the skiing is phenomenal.

Quintessential Alta with Gastronomical Delights

11/02/2009
The Alta Peruvian is the quintessential Alta lodge that ensures there’s an emphasis on the soul of skiing. The Peruvian has an enchanting romance about it. Stay there and you will fall in love with the place.

One of the amazing highlights of the Peruvian is the food. All meals are great, but dinner in particular is a gastronomical extravagance. The chefs do a cracking job and the staff provide exceptional service. The colourful company around the dinner table also adds to the experience.

Other pros of the Alta Peruvian: a very social atmosphere; lots of great facilities including a delightful pool and hot tub; good bargains to be found in the shop; and a happening bar. Being located at one of the best ski resorts in the world is also a huge bonus!

Not all the rooms have a private bathroom and some lodge rooms are reasonably simple and a little squishy. However you don’t stay at the Alta Peruvian to stay in your room. With multiple common areas on offer you won’t want to spend much time in your room.

The Alta Peruvian is up there as one of our best ski lodging experiences ever, so it must be pretty good!
