I highly recommend dipping your toes into Georgia’s beautiful mountains, skiing, and rich culture under the guidance of Matt and the Adventure Project. Gudauri offers a wide range of skiing for all different levels including novice to advanced technical ski tours depending on your group’s abilities. I cannot wait to go back!

Adventure Project - Georgia

The Georgia backcountry ski trip with the Adventure Project was fantastic and a life experience for me. I was a novice backcountry skier before the trip. Matt from the Adventure Project helped me with gear recommendations and avalanche safety training prior to the trip. I greatly improved my backcountry skills and techniques as part of the trip. The setting, snow, and cultural aspects were second to none. I will always remember skinning up to the monastery, having tea with the monk and the hip deep powder ski down and also the tree skiing down valley and having homemade food, wine and cha-cha at the guiding company van driver’s home at the end of the day. It was a unique and awesome experience. The terrain, snow quality and abundance of snow was incredible. The accommodations were also high quality. A five star rating from me.

Trip of a Lifetime!

This is just an absolutely epic trip in every respect. From the skiing to the culture to the prices.
Gudauri Resort is an easy drive from Tbilisi and is surprisingly modern with excellent ski-in/out accommodations. The mountain is massive and has almost exclusively high capacity, hi-speed, lifts and gondolas. The terrain is all above tree line and is so extensive with so few skiers, that fresh lines would last for days after a storm. We didn’t have much fresh when we went, but a bit of hiking or skinning was all it took to get endless untracked. The Gudauri Snow Lab guides were awesome. Insist on taking one day for the ski tour to the monastery. It will be an unforgettable highlight.
The whole cultural aspect is so otherworldly that you’ll never forget the vibrant city of Tblisi, the ancient villages, Soviet era ruins, unique cuisine, and friendly Georgian natives that love to showcase it all to their foreign visitors. All this is extremely affordable with a very generous monetary exchange rate. At the time we went, lift tickets were $14 USD per day!
Matt and TheAdventureProject.net do a wonderful job of organizing and guiding, so all you have to do is show up, ski, and have fun!

Winter of 2018-19 I headed over to Georgia with Matt once again, my 8th trip with him so far :) I must say I had particular expectations on this trip thinking it was going to be very third world, with difficult travel and bad food etc. Well this trip exceeded all of my expectations!! The culture was incredible, the food amazing, and what wonderful people!! Ohhh and by the way the skiing was just out of this world!! All the resorts had new quads and or six packs, the tickets were unreal cheap!! We skied at Guduari and Mestia and both were spectacular!! Huge resorts with tons of potential, you could get fresh tracks there a week after a storm!!! Amazing country and people at such an affordable price!! Check it out for a trip to remember!! :)

Skiing Gudauri

I ventured to Gudauri with the Adventure Project during the 2019 ski season. The area is vast with tons of terrain and lots of backcountry and sidecountry access. This was not my first trip with the Adventure Project and as usual getting to the area from Tbilisi, the lodging and the return to Tbilisi were spot on. Matt puts a lot of energy in to providing not only a good experience but also safety. In our case he supplemented his guiding services with that of another local guide to get the best conditions and the most knowledge available. On the Adventure Project trips Matt tries to add in cultural days, if the group is up for it. In our particular trip we decided to do a tour that was a very rewarding and fun experience.
The tour was roughly 3 hours up a valley to a monastery that has no other access in the winter and we would be bringing water with us to give to the resident monk as he has no readily available water supply at the monastery. We were able to go inside the actual monastery and afterwards sit and visit with the monk and have tea. Can you guess what we talked about? Turns out that particular monk is also a skier so we chatted about gear and such. After that we all skied the entire way back down the valley to end a very memorable day.
As far as the resort itself goes it seems there has been a recent influx of capital, I was told the Georgian government was responsible. All the lifts were redone and put in new a couple of seasons ago, all high speed quads and a few six packs. There are quite a few options for food and the same as the lifts the accommodations seem to be newer construction with a lot of other brand mew construction going up. There are bars, a brewery, several different restaurants to choose from while there.
The skiing was great. The ski area is huge with a backside that if you go all the way down puts you roughly 10 km from Russia. The terrain in the ski area is vast and varied but like other European areas you are not limited to the marked runs so everything is in play. If you are like me though, what your there for is the side country and backcountry. With areas like little Alaska and such, there is a ton of opportunity for serious stoke while there. There is plenty of snow and if you have people that know the area (you will) it is vast enough to get freshies days after a storm.
I forgot to mention, the costs of lift tickets and food are dirt cheap and the food is fantastic: if you are into heavy meals with a lot of cheese, meat, and bread. One last thing, do not miss the opportunity to spend time in Tbilisi. I spent 2 days there on the back end of the trip and still wish I had taken a couple more. If your looking for a unique trip put this one on the list you won’t regret it. By the way I don’t work for the Georgian government or the Adventure Project😀
