Where is Charmant Hiuchi?
The
Charmant Hiuchi Ski Resort is located in the Niigata Prefecture of Honshu Japan, 103km northwest of Nagano City. It is 33km southeast of the coastal town of Itoigawa, 16km southeast of the little seaside town of No (which is often spelled Nou), and 46km southwest of the city of Joetsu.
Driving to Charmant Hiuchi
It’s a bit of a pain in the butt to get to Charmant Hiuchi via public transport for a day trip (see below), so having a car is the easiest way to get there. And if you’re staying in the area for a few days, you’ll definitely need a car. The phone number of Charmant Hiuchi for GPS navigation is 025-568-2244.
There are various tollways in the area. You can try and use your GPS to avoid the tollways, but it can be difficult if you’re travelling near the coast. The last 16km is a bit hilly and windy and it can be rather snowy (which spells good news!), but there are plenty of Charmant signs to reassure you’re on the right track.

Train & Bus
From Tokyo the train trip time has reduced now that there’s a Shinkansen (bullet train) through to Itoigawa, and then a local train to No, with a total trip time of about 3 hours. From Nagano to No it takes about 60-90 minutes depending on connection times (see Japan Travel Navitime for train routes and timetables).
From No train station, there are occasional shuttle buses on weekends and holidays (one schedule per day if you’re lucky) otherwise you’ll need a taxi transfer.
