The North Country Inn offers simple and affordable lodge-style accommodation a short shuttle ride to the Furano ski resort areas. It is great for families/groups (big & small) as well as solo travelers. The hotel is child friendly and children 4 and under stay free if sharing existing bedding with an adult. They also offer free ski rentals for children 4 and under.

Where is the North Country Inn?The property is located away from the ski area and ski village and for some this might be perceived as an issue. They do however have a FREE guest shuttle service which travels to/from the ski area at regular intervals and also to/from downtown Furano, so the location isn't too much of an issue. There are also taxis in Furano so if you want to do things that don't fit with the bus schedule, that is another option.

The ski shuttle runs continuously from 8.15am so all our guests can ride the first Furano Zone Ropeway at 830am each day.

Accommodation OptionsThe North Country Inn offers 37 simply furnished twin/double-share rooms (a couple with King beds), and some have capacity for a futon bed on the tatami floor.

TWIN ROOMS - have 2 western-style beds, a sofa, TV, small fridge & a private en suite bathroom. There is no capacity for extra beds in this room type.

TRIPLE ROOMS - the most spacious rooms with the addition of a tatami mat area, 2 western-style beds and 1 futon sleeping up to 3 guests.

All rooms have a full en suite including shower/bath and come with toiletries, slippers, bathrobes and hairdryer.

The rooms also have individual heating, a TV, telephone, kettle & a small fridge.

Dining & BarsThere are 2 restaurants on-site and a communal lounge / bar area; ideal for get togethers with extended family and friends.

Alternatively, there are a good selection of restaurants and bars up in the village or down-town which you can access via the free shuttle or an inexpensive taxi ride.

Breakfast is a Japanese / Western infused buffet-style.

For dinner, the in-house restaurants also offer a variety of western and Japanese cuisine made from local produce (bookings are required for those who don't add night-time meals to their package).

FeaturesThere is a guest lounge (with flat screen TV & satellite channels) & bar area, 2 restaurants, a quiet common area to hang out to check your email & post your Facebook bragging shots, free wifi, pool table, darts and kids games.

There is also an indoor public Japanese bathhouse (onsen), ski equipment storage area/drying room, ski servicing area & coin launderette.

There is a small convenience store selling ice cream, chocolates, chips etc and basic ski necessities like beanies, glove inners etc.

ServicesServices include English speaking staff, room service, in-room massage services, drinks vending machines, ski & snowboard and equipment rentals.

The resort offers a free, regular scheduled shuttle service to/from the ski resort & a fee scheduled one-way service to downtown Furano in the evenings. Or if you have your own car, there is free onsite parking (no reservation required).

Friendly Place

This is not a shiny glamorous resort but we enjoyed our stay at North Country Inn because it felt rather friendly and homely. We stayed in a triple room which had plenty of space.

The in-house bar was a great place to hang and meet like-minded people. Some nights it was very quiet whilst other nights there was quite a collection of us in there enjoying a bevvie.

Not many places in Furano have an onsen so that was really convenient to have an onsen each night, even though the onsen was rather small and I wasn’t sure if it was truly a natural hot spring. It was particularly relaxing in the outdoor onsen surrounded by snow.

Breakfast was a bit of a highlight with a huge selection of items on offer. Dinner was reasonably priced but we generally went into town for some great Japanese food.

The wifi only worked in the common areas, but this is pretty typical of most places we’ve stayed in japan.

The staff were always on hand to provide assistance. Some spoke perfect English whilst a couple struggled with English – probably a lot less than I struggle with Japanese!

There’s not really any superbly located accommodation in Furano. Either it’s right near the lifts, but then you often want to travel into town for dinner, or you’re near the restaurants but not near the ski areas. Either way you have to catch buses or taxis at some point, so we didn’t mind staying a little away from things because we knew others had to use shuttle services too. The hotel ran a very regular shuttle to and from the ski area, and did drop-offs in town in the evenings. We just caught a taxi home which was pretty easy.
