At 72 years of age I had to pay full price,$148, for a day's skiing! This resort is certainly not worth that much regardless of age.

If you want real skiing go to Idaho or Montana, The snowfall is dwindling and the crowds are growing every year. I stopped skiing at Alta when I realized there was better snow and no crowds for free across the street.

I've been to Alta twice - 2 years apart. Both visits were pretty sublime. Snow was great; terrain diverse, and steep enough to get some good speed to rip up some pow. It does get tracked out by the end of the day, so you really have to search for the goods. Lift line waits can fluctuate depending on which lift you're trying to get on - with Sugarloaf and Supreme being the longest (after first lift).

Been to Alta twice and both times had a wonderful experience. Not crowded, friendly and helpful staff and really nice facility.

When Vikings died they hope to go to Vahalla. When skiers die, they hope to go to Alta.

If you’re looking for firepits with s’mores, sleigh rides, ski shops selling Prada, vibrant nightlife, or a cute little village to stroll through to explore the different restaurants and shops, then Alta is not for you. You go to Alta if you love skiing and want to increase your chances of scoring a quality powder day.

Some parts of Alta are stuck in a time warp which some visitors don’t like, but I love that it oozes charm and has retained the soul of skiing. There are plenty of old timers at Alta (not that I’m a spring chicken) who are great to chat to and hear their stories of the olden days of skiing (long before the days of fluoro).

We’re often asked which is the most perfect ski resort in the world. No ski resort is perfect because if it’s got well developed infrastructure and a party scene, then it’s a highly populated ski resort with crowds to pay for the amenities and provide the nightlife, which means that freshies are hard to come by. And if it’s a deserted ski resort then it’s probably very small and got a couple of dinky old chair lifts and no amenities. So if I was to name my favourite ski resort, it would be Alta (especially when combined with Snowbird). It has amazing powder, and even though too many SLCers come to play on the weekends, there are still enough freshies on offer (especially on a weekday).

For more of our thoughts on the pros and cons, see the Alta overview page, and also see the USA ski resorts ratings to see how we rate Alta against other US resorts (pretty highly!).

Alta is a skier's paradise. Serious skiers that is. We're not here to shop, enjoy wild nightlife or be seen like the ritzy Park City crowd. We're serious about skiing. Enuff said!
