Hidden Hokkaido

The Hidden Hokkaido Tour from Summit Ski is ideal for advanced skiers and riders looking to become familiar or more comfortable with powder riding. Hokkaido is the perfect place to build confidence considering that the powder is often light and dry aka "ego snow". Via access from the lifts at the ski resorts, you'll be guided to the powder laden off-piste zones. Many of the resorts have great tree skiing, and you'll be able to progress your powder riding in open zones, wide glades, and tighter trees as your confidence grows.

The tour explores two prime zones in Hokkaido. From your base in Niseko, which is famous for its vibrancy as well as being a powder machine, you'll explore Niseko United, Rusutsu Ski Resort, and Kokusai or Kiroro. Then you'll head to your second base in Furano in Central Hokkaido, which is renowned for its quality powder snow. Your guide will show you the joys of Furano Ski Resort, Tomamu, Kamui and Asahidake.

This tour is offered as a group tour where solos or small groups can join one of the fixed date tours, or if you have your own group you can have a private tour, pending availability. If you have any questions or want to double check about availability, please make a booking request.

This tour requires a minimum of 2 people to go ahead for a private format, or 4 people for the mixed group tours. All riders must be advanced riders to join in a group tour. Riders should be comfortable skiing on steep red/black groomers and feel ready to progress into powder snow.

For private tours, you can choose the sort of terrain you want to ride, whether that be out the resort gates, lift-assisted touring or full backcountry, and you can utilise the guide to get you more acquainted with touring.

All mountain/powder skis and snowboards will be needed for this trip. For skis a minimum of 100mm underfoot is recommended. As the terrain accessed on this tour is lift assisted, there will be no need for backcountry touring equipment. If you are riding powder terrain, avalanche safety equipment will be essential.

Day 1

  • Pick up from Chitose Airport and relax as you're driven through the snowy mountain passes until your arrival in the worlds number 1 powder Mecca that is Niseko.
  • Check in to your accommodation, get settled in.
  • 7pm briefing on the trip.

Day 2

  • Get those legs warmed up and explore Niseko’s famous powder runs. Your guide's local knowledge ensures you get those secret powder stashes even on the busiest of days.
  • Stay in Niseko

Day 3

  • A playground of powder awaits you as you ski Rusutsu’s bottomless tree lines. One of Hokkaido's most playful resorts is yours to explore with the secret knowledge of your guide.
  • Stay in Niseko

Day 4

  • Close to Hokkaido’s west coast lies two great options for today's adventure. Sharing the same mountain range, you get the chance to shred the lesser explored Kokusai or Kiroro ski resorts and surrounding areas.
  • Once finished skiing it’s time to get you straight to the next zone
  • Transfer to Furano

Day 5

  • Steep and deep! Furano is perfect for gaining those top to bottom laps through Hokkaido's driest powder snow.
  • Enjoy some beers in a local bar and celebrate a great day
  • Stay in Furano
  • An onsen trip is possible in the evening

Day 6

  • Head on an adventure south of Furano and check out Tomamu. This large ski area is boasting everything you need in a resort. With most skiers sticking to the beginner slopes of this vast area, the group will have no problem lapping up the endless powder.
  • Stay in Furano

Day 7

  • Kamui is a real locals' mountain and home to some of Japan's most famous freeride skiers and racers. This local hill packs a punch with some epic open powder fields mixed in with some great tree runs. It is a real hidden gem.
  • Stay in Furano

Day 8

  • Known as ‘Kamui Mintara’ or the Playground of the Gods. Spend the final day of adventure on Hokkaido's tallest mountain. This place gets caked with the white stuff and if you're lucky enough to have a bluebird powder day you can also see the billowing fumaroles from the top of the Asahidake ropeway.
  • Stay in Furano

Day 9

  • Return to Chitose or Niseko after breakfast

The weather forecast will be checked regularly by the guides and instructors. Safety predictions based on these will be given each morning at breakfast before heading to the resort. In the case of bad weather conditions there may be the possibility to explore an alternative nearby resort or spend 2 days at one of the above mentioned resorts if the weather permits.

Note that the itinerary for the first tour date is reversed due to snow conditions.

You will be staying in hotels in Niseko and Furano and within walking distance to restaurants/bars/convenience stores. Rooms are shared twin bed rooms.

If you are a solo traveller there is the option to upgrade to a single room for an additional charge.

Please make a booking request for more details on lodging.
