SASS - If you can't have fun with them.....you won't have fun with anyone!

Just finished up a week with SASS in Argentina. I think the best advice I had prior to leaving was something I read in a post. The #1 thing to do prior to heading south was to have NO expectations. This advice was given by Garrett Russell with a few other tips. Honestly, I don't remember the rest but I fully embraced the "no expectation" suggestion. This was an adventure in every sense of the word.

Over the week I got to see some young kids ripping it up like they had been skiing for decades, a 50'ish man treat every day on the mountain as if he was a 12 year old. He just loves being on the mountain day in day out. I met some folks I'll be friends with for years to come. I saw the staff of SASS make every day count even though the conditions were against them. In listening to a conversation at breakfast with Michelle Parker and David Reichel I realized that the adventure is not just on the mountain, but getting there too.

During this trip the information was flowing. I don't think I could of had more instruction if I asked. The point is, I never asked. If anyone from SASS watched you do anything that could be improved upon, you'd get a subtle little "hey, if you try this.....it will make it easier on you".

If you love sliding down a mountain and want to hang around like minded people while getting better with little effort over just loving the sport, this is the place to come. I heard of SASS 60 days ago and now I'm a life long fan!!! Thanks so much for the great time and I look forward to seeing you guys on another adventure!!!!

Camper style guided tours of backcountry. Amazing coaches. Snowfall was only good for a few days out of the 2 weeks I was there. Felt like I was in a university dorm - which could be good or bad depending on how young u are/feel. Average age of adult "campers" seems to be high 20s to mid 30s Would suggest they market better to those older if that is one of their target markets.

BBQ dinner nights were 10 out of 10. Roxy pro riders who led a few tours were surprisingly down to earth. Great for solo skiiers/riders wanting to meet others sharing same passion for skiing/snowboarding. Not suitable for those not comfortable with black runs.

Hot tub was more like a community pool and was not a pro for me.

The SASS Crew is fantastic! From a professional administration group to world class guides, the SASS Adventure is perfect for any level.

I attended the last 2 weeks (Roxy Women's week and Adult week). If you are a little older, these are definitely the weeks to go. Traveling on my own, I found the crew and attendees to be welcoming and ready to rip.

The guides knowledge of the mountain and attention to safety (beacon/probe/shovel mandatory) made me comfortable on every hike. Apres life is as exciting as you want to make it. Although the local commraderie and pool time is enough to put you to sleep by 10pm, if you are looking for something more the town of Bariloche is a 20 minute cab ride, offering all the night life amenities you could want from a big city.

Overall the experience was great and can't wait to get back. Hope to see ya'll there!

Stashes of Fun

An Argentina trip with SASS is a great opportunity to meet new friends, improve your riding skills, and get the most out of Catedral.

The SGT operation is a well oiled machine and the support the staff provides goes above and beyond. This is particularly advantageous for the youngsters or others who may feel a little out of their depth in an unfamiliar country. They went out of their way to help with all sorts of requests: assistance with travel arrangements (particularly when plans go astray, volcanoes erupt, or a passport is lost); advice regarding the best nightclub, chocolate shop, or where to get your equipment serviced; car hire; interpreting; and insights into the culture and the A factor!

Without the great guiding we probably wouldn’t have found as many stashes of fun at Catedral. The guides were also invaluable in finding the exits from the tree skiing so that we didn’t end up hacking our way out through the thick shrubbery near the base. The guides were highly skilled and knowledgeable, and had plenty of charisma. The flexibility around the groupings each day was also impressive, so as to cater for individual wishes.

The lodging at the hotel was perfect for young adults and really conducive to socializing; particularly the après sessions in the pool! If you had 4 people in a room it might be a bit squishy but there’s always the option of a single supplement or the apartments next door if you want extra space and privacy guaranteed. The meals were great and thankfully they had dinner at 9pm (gringo time!) rather than 11pm. The only con of the hotel would be the lack of ski/snowboard storage and no fridge to store your coldies.

It would be hard not have fun on a SGT Argentina trip. The mountain has awesome terrain, the staff are entertaining, and the other guests are fab. The Argentina SASS trips are perfect for solo travelers or small groups to meet like-minded pow seekers.
