Sakaya Ryokan has very good to excellent reviews across the board. The general theme was that this hotel is a "true Japanese cultural experience that hasn't been altered to cater for westerners".
- Service is said to be outstanding. Some English speaking staff. A truly memorable experience.
- Food is some of the best you will find in Japan
- Onsens are beautiful and probably the best in Nozawa Onsen (in fact they are some of the best in all of Japan)
- Rooms are large in size and nicely maintained and clean
- Good wifi in common areas but not so good in rooms
- Location is excellent - in the middle of the village and a short walk to lifts
- Whilst it is one of the most expensive options in Nozawa Onsen the general consensus was that the value for money was good based on the experience, ambience and standard of accommodation
