The Rimrock Hotel is a large resort hotel perched up high on Sulphur Mountain close to the Banff gondola and the Upper Banff Hot Springs. Considering its Upper Banff location, one of the main drawcards are the views afforded from the hotel rooms and restaurants and bar. The Rimrock Hotel Banff has comprehensive facilities and offers high levels of service – it is a AAA/CAA Four Diamond Hotel.

Where is the Rimrock Hotel Banff?

Situated in the Canadian Rockies in the Banff National Park, the Rimrock Resort Hotel is 4km from the Banff town centre. A bus stop for the ROAM bus (number 1 bus route) is located out the front and the hotel provides free bus passes. The buses depart about every 40 minutes.

If you don’t have a car and you want to go skiing at the Banff ski resorts, the staff can provide a shuttle service to the Mont Royal bus stop in town (as the ROAM bus timetables don’t line up well with the resort buses), where buses to Sunshine, Norquay and Lake Louise depart.

The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the Upper Banff Hot Springs and 5 minutes from the Banff Gondola.

Rooms

The Rimrock Hotel has standard and premium king rooms, and standard and premium queen rooms with 2 queen beds (for up to 4 guests).

The rooms are very spacious and premium rooms offer views of the Bow or Spray Valley, whilst standard rooms have obstructed views (by trees for example).

The rooms have an ensuite bathroom with bath/shower, bathrobes, a small sitting area, flat screen TV and wifi.

Interconnecting rooms are available.

Fantastic Stay

The Rimrock Hotel was a resort in itself with very comprehensive facilities and very high levels of service. It would have been easy enough to hang around the hotel for a couple of days and never leave!

This was a high end hotel without high end prices. Possibly due to its location out of town, the prices were incredibly reasonable.

It was ideal having a car to get to the ski resorts and town, and we also caught the ROAM bus a couple of times into town which was rather easy (we just had to dress very warmly). One downside was that the parking seemed very expensive (especially for an out of town location), even if you just self-parked. A major pro with respect to the location was its proximity to the hot springs – just a quick walk up the hill.

Our room was huge and it offered fantastic views. The bed was way too soft but of course everyone has different tastes when it comes to beds. Even though it was the middle of winter, the room was hot, we weren’t allowed to open the windows, and it seemed weird that we had to put the air conditioning on to go to sleep.

The lounge at the hotel was amazing to go for a pre-sunset drink to take in the fantastic views.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Rimrock and could very readily recommend it to others.
