f you’re looking for an authentic traditional Japanese cultural experience, you definitely will not find it at the Naeba Prince Hotel. Apart from the fact that negligible staff speak English (so don’t expect any sort of concierge service), you wouldn’t guess that you were in Japan. The hotel is very resorty and it lacks any Japanese charm. And you may feel a little like you’re stuck on a cruise ship that you can’t escape from.

I’m not sure about the value for money of the hotel. It seems reasonable to pay a premium for the location right at the base of the ski resort, but they market themselves as luxurious accommodation and have the tariffs to match. This is not a luxurious hotel.

Absolute Ski-in Ski-out

It’s very easy to stay at the Prince Hotel. Catch the lift down, pull your skis out of the locker, and twenty steps later you’re on the snow. Gotta love it! Any facility or service you need is at the hotel – it’s a one stop shop (although because of the sheer size of the hotel, it doesn’t mean that a particular facility is close to your hotel room).

We stayed in Wing 4 in a medium sized twin room. We’d heard that some of the hotel rooms are a bit dated but ours was great; simple décor but modern and clean. In addition to the two twin beds, the room had a sofa bed, although the room would have been rather squishy if we’d tried to fit another two people in the room. The views of the ski slopes were spectacular, particularly at night, and it was a great viewing spot to watch the action. The only slight downside of the room was the lack of internet access.

The service at the hotel was very good. It was pretty hard to find someone who spoke English, but you can’t fault them for that because this is Japan after all!

The Naeba Prince Hotel is absolutely perfect for families. Forget about going to the Tokyo Disneyland where you’ll only have to queue up for hours to go on rides. Kids will think that Naeba’s much better than Disneyland and parents will love the ease with which the kids can be entertained.
