Catski Adjara Ski & Snowboard Packages

Catski Adjara is Europe's newest cat skiing adventure. Cat skiing at Adjara is located in southwestern Georgia near the remote village of Bakhmaro. The closest major Georgian cities are Kutaisi & Batumi. For more information on how to get to Georgia & the gateway airport of Kutaisi (KUT), see our Bakhmaro & Adjara Location page.

Packages includes return airport transfers, 7 nights of accommodation in a rustic alpine hut, all meals whilst in Adjara & 6 days of fully guided cat skiing. Whilst dependent on weather & the fitness of the group, during a normal cat ski day in Adjara at least 10 runs can be completed.

Snow & Terrain

The location of Bakhmaro & the higher elevation location of Adjara in the "Lesser Caucasus" is relatively close to the Black Sea. The proximity of the sea to the high peaks of around 2,700m provides abundant moisture, and when combined with cold temperatures, deep powder from December to early March.

The terrain includes great tree skiing & high alpine terrain between 1,800m and over 2,700m elevation in the snow laden 'Little' Caucasus of Southern Georgia. High levels of snowfall, especially at the beginning of the season provide generally excellent conditions. Tree runs with names like "Big in Japan' indicate the quality of the ski experience here. The numbers of return clientele are another indicator! cat skiing can get booked out quickly.

Ski Ability

The Catski Adjara tour is in its formative stages, so only expert skiers & snowboarders with resilience & backcountry experience will be accepted.

The operation is run by a reliable and professionalism German-Swiss organization, where quality and safety management is paramount.

Tour groups are led by a local guide from the professional Georgian Mountain Guides Association, overseen by professional mountain guides from the Alps

See the short video of the Cat Skiing experience in the region courtesy of whitehearts,de. You can expect a similar, but more high alpine ski experience at Adjara.

Typical Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival (Saturday or potentially Friday night)

Arrival Kutaisi (KUT) airport in Georgia. Pick up at the airport & transfer to Adjara via Bakhmaro (2 hours with the minibus and then 2.5 to 3 hours with the Snowcat). [There may be an overnight stay in the vicinity of the airport required depending on your flight arrival.]

Accommodation for duration of tour - Adjara Alpine Hut at 2400m elevation with a maximum of 12 guests.

Day 2 -  Induction & Skiing/Snowboarding

An easy start in the morning, a group brunch & introductions. Safety briefing & start skiing around noon.

Days 3 to 7 - Full Days Cat Skiing & Snowboarding

Cat Skiing in the mountains of Adjara. The Alpine Hut is at 2,400m allowing skiing immediately from the door! Above 2,100m, the mountains are tree-free. The summits able to be reached are 2,500 to 2,755m. For season 2019/20, exploration of new terrain was a big part of the tour. for coming seasons, there will still be adventure & exploration, but the best terrain is now understood!

Depending on the area, the length of the run & the condition of the participants, about 10 runs per day is possible - between 3,000 to 5,000m vertical.

Adjara Lodging & Food

Alpine Hut Accommodation

Catski Adjara is based in an alpine hut deep in the mountains & far away from the closest civilization (hence the 2.5 to 3hr transfer by snowcat from the nearest road). The isolated village of Bakhmaro is transited on the way to the hut.

The alpine hut is located spectacularly on a ridge at 2,400m elevation & unlike the valley village location of Bakhmaro, awesome skiing is available straight from the front door. The hut is simple, but warm & cosy. It has been fitted out with bunk rooms, toilets & showers, a common area, dining area & kitchen.

Full board with an extensive breakfast, a simple lunch snack and a Georgian dinner is provided whilst at Adjara. Due to the remote location in the mountains of the Lesser Caucasus, the supply of fresh goods is only partly possible. Meals will be delicious, but the difficult nature of logistics may limit variety throughout the week.

For breakfast, there is, next to the obligatory khachapuri "small chicken" - eggs as omelette or fried eggs, freshly baked bread and honey from local beekeepers. At lunchtime, there will be a simple takeaway snack to maximize ski time during the day. In the evening, Georgian cooking at its best. And, of course, you can look forward to the famous BBQ in the snow ...

Corona Virus Update re Booking Conditions

Non-binding advance bookings have been possible since the beginning of May. It is practically impossible for us to predict when travel restrictions will be lifted. Accordingly, there is still no winter flight program. Nevertheless, we are beginning to accept booking requests for both parties without obligation.

We are not currently creating any invoices. Down payments are only planned from mid-June.

Before booking, please note that a second Corona wave is expected in autumn. In autumn, however, we will no longer be able to reimburse payments made (since we are already buying goods for the winter). There will be no refunds out of goodwill. Please take out travel cancellation insurance.

If the trip cannot be carried out for legal reasons, we will only be able to issue travel vouchers for upcoming seasons.
