The Powderhounds visited this big hotel and can highly recommend a stay here for 3-4 days. It’s worthwhile combining a stay at this hotel with a week-long stay at one of the other Hakuba villages, or a trip to one of the other Nagano ski resorts. The hotel has some amazing strengths but because there is no village at Cortina, just the hotel, there could be the risk of getting cabin fever with a long stay at the Hotel Green Plaza, particularly if you want nightlife. Also whilst the food was of very high quality and there was plenty of variety, I think there would be a limit to how many buffet meals we could have done in a row.

The hotel is very striking looking. Some think it’s an eyesore but we quite liked the dramatic and kitsch nature of it – it’s the Japanese way! We also liked that there weren’t too many other westerners at the hotel.

The room was very nice, and the combination of the western beds and the tatami area was a great compromise between comfort and a Japanese experience.

Other pros of the hotel included a fabulous onsen, family friendliness, very good levels of service (including a degree of English spoken by some staff), inexpensive massages, good amenities, a fantastic location, and very good value for money.
