Red Mountain and the Rossland area have a range of activities including ski tours, family activities, adventure activities and some relaxing opportunities for those who just need a rest.
Ski Tours and Activities
Big Red Cats is based at Red Mountain and offers great cat skiing nearby. This is a great powderhound activity with opportunities to sniff out plenty of fresh powder. This is a very slick and safety conscious operation, and they provide the flexibility of single or multi-day packages and stand-by rates. It’s a “must do”.
The other option for cat skiing is
Wildhorse that operate out of Ymir, an hour drive away. Wildhorse also provide the flexibility of single or multi-day cat ski trips. This is a fun and laidback operation, and there is plenty of snowfall around the Nelson area.
There are various backcountry touring operations at Red Mountain. Rossland Mountain Adventures (RMA) is one example. They offer single day backcountry tours, multi-day tours staying overnight in a lodge or yurt, backcountry awareness education tours and avalanche skills training.
Cross country skiing is available with the Blackjack Cross Country Club which is 3km north of Rossland adjacent to Red Mountain Resort. They have 40km of ski trails.
Le Petit Fromage is a combination of a cross country skiing experience with a fondue dinner. Diners ski to a hut where they enjoy a French fondue meal by candlelight. Ski rentals are available.
Canadian Ski Quest are based at Red Mountain and run week-long ski improvement programs. They offer full packages that include accommodation, or there are tuition-only programs.
Family Activities
Snowshoe rentals are available from Red Sports, or alternatively go ice-skating at the Rossland Arena.
Adventure Activities
If you have a need for super speed,
High Mountain Adventures offer various snowmobiling tours, including an all day powderhound tour.
Leisure Activities
If you want some purpose to a leisurely stroll, you can do a walking self-tour around historic Rossland. Check your hotel or accommodation for a brochure and map.
On the outskirts of town is the
Rossland Historic Museum where you can partake in a tour that provides the history of Rossland as a booming gold mining town.
Relaxation
The
DandiLion Wellness Centre at the Prestige Hotel offers a range of salon and rejuvenation treatments for men and women in need of some R&R. In line with general Rossland prices, the tariffs are very inexpensive, so this is the place to spoil yourself. As a guide, a 90 minute hot stone pampering massage is only $110. How good is that?
There is also the
Rossland and Castlegar Medical Aesthetics and Day Spa, and other massage practitioners operating in the Rossland area.
