Queenstown Accommodation
There are literally tens of thousands of beds for rent in
Queenstown New Zealand, which can make choosing the right place to stay quite arduous. When you’re spoilt for choice, at least you know you’ll be able to find a place that satisfies all your needs. In addition to the standard hotels, motels, lodges, backpackers and B&Bs, there are also farm and home-stay options, and campgrounds.
Queenstown Accommodation Locations
One thing you should be aware of is that not all accommodation in Queenstown is within easy walking distance of the town. If you don’t have a car, double check the location or ascertain if they have a shuttle bus and the hours of operation. Another consideration may be if the accommodation has their own shuttle service to the mountains or if they at least have a daily pick-up from near-by.
Accommodation in Queenstown may be located very centrally near the CBD, or it may be in the “suburbs” of Queenstown. Frankton near the airport is about a 10 minute drive from the centre of town and is more of a residential area. Some of the top hotels are situated in Fernhill, which is up the hill next to the lake. Sunshine Bay is a little further away from town past Fernhill.

Arrowtown Accommodation
Arrowtown is 20 minutes from Queenstown and is a small historic town that features many old buildings. The main street has a row of old miner’s cottages that have been converted into shops, and the lanes off the main street have a hidden café culture. The town is peaceful and tranquil and offers an alternative to visitors who prefer quiet charm, rather than the hustle and bustle of Queenstown. Accommodation options in Arrowtown include boutique hotels, motels, apartments and bed and breakfasts.
Hotels Queenstown
Queenstown has hundreds of hotels to choose from. An example of a centrally located hotel is the Browns Boutique Hotel, although it’s more bed and breakfast style accommodation than your classic hotel. The Browns Boutique Hotel is opulent but extremely reasonably priced for what is on offer. The hotel is only a 2-3 minute walk from the centre of town and has spectacular mountain and lake views. There are only 10 rooms, all with ensuites and a hot breakfast is included. Wireless internet access is also available for those who wish to send brag photos to their friends.
If you prefer resort style accommodation, try the
Heritage Hotel Queenstown, which is a decadent establishment in the Fernhill area. The rates are incredibly reasonable for the quality of accommodation on offer. They offer a range of room configurations from deluxe rooms, suites and multi-bedroom villas. Some of the rooms come with a view over Lake Wakatipu, or alternatively a forest view. Backpackers Queenstown
Unfortunately staying in back packer accommodation in Queenstown can be a hit-and-miss affair. They operate on minimal costs to try and keep their nightly rates low, and sometimes this can lead to a less than impressive experience. However, Bumbles Backpackers receives good reviews. The hostel is located right in the middle of town enabling easy access to all of the action. Alternatively try the Bungi Backpackers.
Queenstown Motels
There is plenty of motel style accommodation in Queenstown.
Blue Peaks Lodge offers comfortable motel style accommodation within walking distance to the centre of town. They offer studios and one and 2-bedroom units that sleep up to 3 or 4 people. Some of the rooms have kitchenettes.
Apartment Accommodation
Adjacent to Blue Peaks Lodge is apartment style accommodation at Blue Peaks Apartments. They provide luxury (4 star) 2 and 3 bedroom accommodation.
