San Martino di Castrozza - Passo Rolle Ski Resort Italy

The southern most ski resort member of Dolomiti Superski, San Martino di Castrozza - Passo Rolle is an 'off the radar' Dolomites ski resort with an authentic village, fantastic mountain scenery & varied terrain. Its 60km of trails includes a longest on-piste run (Fantasia 2000) of 5km over 934m vertical, plus a luscious off-piste freeride descent from the top of the Rosetta cable car which looks to be a perfect pitch on a powder day. Combine that the snow-sure trails at high-altitude Passo Rolle and a lift system that boasts 3 gondolas & 13 chairlifts, how is it that we haven't been here before?

Before we get there to check it out for ourselves, see the possibilities of the ski area on the San Martino di Castrozza - Passo Rolle ski trail map below.

Where is San Martino di Castrozza Italy?

Only 134km (2hr) by road north of Venice, San Martino di Castrozza & Passo Rolle are the most southerly Dolomites' ski resort. The airport at Venice (VCE) is the closest gateway, or alternatively it is possible to come from the north or west from Milan (MXP), Munich (MUC) or Innsbruck (INN) via the city of Trento or Bolzano. Note that despite being significantly closer by road to Bolzano the journey from there to San Martino involves going over Passo Rolle, which whilst beautiful, adds significantly to the travel time. From Trento, the journey is around 110km and usually takes less than 2hr. If staying in Passo Rolle, travelling from Bolzano is a better option.

Unless in a rental car, the best way to get to San Martino is either by direct transfer from Venice airport to the ski resort, or by train to Bolzano or Trento, then organise a transfer from there.

San Martino & Passo Rolle Accommodation

The village of San Martino di Castrozza (1,467m) and the higher elevation Passo Rolle (1,984m) have an impressive backdrop of Dolomiti peaks up to 3,184m altitude (Cimon-della-Pala), making it not only an incredibly picturesque location, but also snow-sure in winter. San Martino has a wonderful selection of accommodations including the ski-in ski-out Malga Ces. In town, several historic hotels like Hotel Savoia dal 1924 and G. Hotel Des Alpes (G stands for Grand!), plus Historic Residence Madonna apartments grace the skyline, providing stellar accommodations. A multitude of other very well-priced 2, 3 & 4-star hotels are available throughout the compact town, including Park Hotel Miramonti, Hotel Vienna, Hotel Garni Suisse, Hotel Stalon Alpine Chic, plus the affordable Hotel ColfoscoAlbergo Centrale. For a mountain hut feel and the towns best value rooms, but with shared facilities, the place to stay in San Martino is the Ostello SanMartino.

Up at Passo Rolle overnight accommodation options are few, with Albergo Venezia and Albergo Vezzana being the places to stay, central to all the ski lifts & pistes. We will understand if you end at the wrong one!
