Accommodation
Banff has a lot of choice for accommodation, but if you like ski-in ski-out accommodation and the convenience of staying on-mountain, then your options will be very limited, almost absent. Sunshine Inn is the only on-mountain hotel at Sunshine Village. In Banff there are a large selection of hotels, B&Bs, lodges and hostels. Most of the hotels are on Banff Avenue or on Tunnel Mountain Road. There are also campgrounds in surrounding areas.
The town of Canmore is another option, which is 25km towards Calgary, and there are lots of other lodges and resorts in areas surrounding these towns. Alternatively there is Lake Louise accommodation.
Everyone wants a piece of the action when it comes to booking your accommodation. There are many different booking agencies.
Budget Hostels include the HI-Banff Alpine Centre which has private rooms and a restaurant. The SameSun Backpacker Lodge also has private rooms with an ensuite and includes breakfast. Rooms start at $30/night.
Banff Y Mountain Lodge is a five minute walk to the central town and has private and dormitory rooms with private baths.
There are various campgrounds and RV parks around Banff. An example is the
Sundance Lodges, which is a little out of Banff past Canmore in Kananaskis village.
Mid-range Banff Ptarmigan Inn is close to all the action, as is the 3.5 star Banff Caribou Lodge and Spa. Otherwise try Fox Hotel and Suites.
Top-range The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel is more like a castle than a hotel, and is incredibly majestic. It’s not in central town, but overlooks the town. This place has all the bells and whistles but it comes at a price, and is so popular that it’s sometimes booked out.
The
Rimrock Resort Hotel is also opulent and similarly is nested in a beautiful mountain setting above the town.
