3 Peaks Dolomites

3 Peaks Dolomites Ski Resort Italy

Its not often that a ski area changes its name but here is one - 3 Peaks Dolomites (a.k.a. Drei Zinnen, f.k.a. Sesto Dolomites).  Named after the famous 3 peaks of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, the ski area is actually a fair distance from them.  But hey lets not quibble, it's close enough -  you can see them on a clear day.

Beautifully situated and surrounded by Monte Elmo to the north and spectacular Croda Rossa and other true Dolomites peaks to the to the south, the main ski area is centred on the fantastic town of Sesto (a.k.a Sexten).  Impressively, as well as having the steepest black run in Italy, it is now fully linked with modern lifts all the way around the valley, from the flanks of the Croda Rossa, up and over Monte Elmo and down to Versciaco, where there is a seriously convenient train station linking you to the nearby Kronplatz ski resort and the rest of the Europe.

So aside from massive confusion as to what to call the resort and whether to pronounce names in Italian or German, this is a great ski destination. (FYI German is the more accepted language in the valley, but part of the resort, Padola, is in the province of Belluno, so Italian is the way to go there - make sense?)

More information about this European ski resort is coming soon.

The Powderhounds will be reviewing 3 Peaks Dolomites  in 2017, stay tuned for more information.
