Accommodation

Nevados de Chillan has a few accommodation options including the 5 star Hotel Gran, a 3 star hotel and condominiums. All on-mountain accommodations have the convenience of being ski-in ski-out. For those on a budget there are various lodgings in the town of Las Trancas, 7km down the road.

Nevados de Chillan Accommodations The Gran Hotel Termas de Chillán is very grand indeed with 5 star services and amenities. The hotel is next to the casino and is fabulously located with ski in ski out access. Most lodging here is based on a week-long stay with full board that includes lift tickets and three gastronomically magnificent meals. Shorter stays can be negotiated especially if it’s not peak season (ie not July). The resort complex has an array of facilities and activities for adults and children, but for extra pampering there are hot springs (termas) on site as well as decadent day spa services. The whole experience is THE way to go skiing. See our review of the Gran Hotel for more information on this great accommodation.

The resort has six slope-side condominium (condomino) buildings that are self-contained. They have a variety of configurations to sleep 3 to 6 people, and the accommodation includes access to hot springs at the club house.

There is also the Nevados de Chillan Hotel (formerly the Hotel Pirigallo). It is a 3 star hotel yet the rates are out of line with the quality of the accommodation. It has a lot of inclusions, many that you may not need, and at these prices you’d expect much better accommodation.

Located only a couple of minutes walk from the lifts, this s a nice mid-range property with nice facilities including a heated mineral swimming pool. Packages include lift tickets, breakfast & dinners daily...

Las Trancas Accommodations Las Trancas is a little alpine village at the base of the mountain. The town is spread out along Ruta 55 with lots of cute wooden buildings that add to the friendly feel of the place. The advantages of staying in Las Trancas are that costs for accommodation are significantly reduced and you might get a true Chilean experience. There is also more of a range of restaurants and the après is more pumping than at the resort.

Las Trancas accommodations include hostels, lodges and hotels. There are also lots of cabins (cabanas) that offer budget accommodation.

The Chil-in Hostal is a cheap and friendly place to stay, and it has the added convenience of a small shop, ski rental, tourist information and a restaurant and pizzeria.

Hostelling Las Trancas International (hostellinglastrancas@gmail.com 423718) is just before the access road to the ski resort. This is not a new establishment and no English is spoken by the staff, but it’s a welcoming hostel. It has two private rooms and the rest of the rooms are dorms.

Parador Jamon Pan y Vino offers rooms for two for $44.000 per night or budget cabanas for 5-8 people.

For more upmarket accommodation, the Hotel Pirimahuida offers standard rooms as well as accommodations for up to 4 persons. The hotel has thermal baths (termas) and it provides shuttles to and from the ski area.

Located just 7 kilometers (4,4 miles) from the Termas de Chillan ski slopes, in the captivating Las Trancas valley, with a spectacular view to the majestic Chillán Volcano and the surrounding mountains.

Los Lleuques Accommodation Another 30 minutes away is the village of Los Lleunques. Here you’ll really get an “unresortifed” experience and super cheap accommodation. There are also a range of cabanas on Ruta 55 between Las Trancas and Chillan. If you’re happy to have a spontaneous holiday, you probably don’t need to book at any of these places.

Chillan Accommodation The city of Chillan is 78km from Termas de Chillan. This is another great place to stay if you want value-for-money accommodation in a hotel or hostel. There aren’t any real tourist attractions in Chillan, and it’s a bit seedy at night with the occasional prostitute touting for business. However with lots of colourful buildings and no resorts in sight, you know you’ve found the real Chile.

If you want high quality accommodation, stay at the 4-star Gran Hotel Isabel Riquelme (42-43 44 00).  At the other end of the spectrum, we stayed at the Hotel Alicante, a no-frills roadside motel. This was a quaint experience, but we were very happy to get to the Gran Hotel at Termas de Chillan.
