How to get there
Where is Brighton Ski Resort?
Brighton ski resort is located at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon (Highway 190), only 35 minutes southeast of downtown
Salt Lake City Utah.
Other Ski Resorts Nearby
Solitude ski resort is next door and interconnected via the Sol-Bright run or by getting a bus. Many other
Utah ski resorts are less than an hour away including
Alta and
Snowbird in Little Cottonwood Canyon and those around Park City (
Park City Mountain Resort,
The Canyons,
Deer Valley).
Powder Mountain and
Snowbasin are about 2 hours away.
Getting To Brighton Ski Resort
By air: Salt Lake City is a major airline hub, so flights into the city are numerous.
By car: A car is not necessary if Brighton is your only destination, but it will certainly assist in providing flexibility to get between other
Utah resorts and
Salt Lake City.
The route from the airport is:
- Take the Interstate I-215 South to exit 6/6200 South
- Exit to the right which becomes Wasatch Drive
- Turn left at Big Cottonwood Canyon which is well sign-posted
The route from downtown SLC:
- Take 700 East and travel South to Interstate I-80 East.
- Follow I-80 East to Interstate I-215 South.
- Take 6200 South (exit 6) and continue onto Wasatch Blvd
- Turn left at Big Cottonwood Canyon which is well signposted.
- Follow the Big Cottonwood Canyon road up to the top of the canyon.
Occasionally the road up Big Cottonwood Canyon is closed for avalanche control, but not as often as in the neighbouring Little Cottonwood Canyon.
By Public Bus:
From downtown SLC, use the UTA TRAX (Utah Transit Authority light rail) to transfer to a UTA ski bus which will take you to Brighton. This is a very cheap way to get to Brighton, but it doesn’t afford much flexibility because there are generally only three schedules in the morning and two rides down, and even less on the weekends. Check the
Ride UTA website for schedules. You’ll have to carry the correct money ($4.50 one-way for 08/09) as the drivers cannot provide change.
Private transportation:
There are various private companies offering transportation to Solitude and Brighton from SLC, Park City or Little Cottonwood Canyon (Snowbird and Alta).
Canyon Hop and Canyon Transportation are examples.
Getting Around
To get to and from Solitude, the easiest way is to ski over and back (intermediates and above only), or alternatively the UTA (Utah Transit Authority) have buses between the resorts. This is cheap but the service is not frequent.
