Accommodation
South Lake Tahoe and Stateline have all the accommodation types one could desire for the
Heavenly Ski Resort. Accommodation of every kind is available, from casinos, hotels, motels, apartments and home rentals.
Accommodation services can be quite competitive and last minute bargains can usually be picked up at any of the casinos and hotels. As to be expected, you’ll tend to pay a premium for a view of the lake.
California Base Area Accommodations
The Californian side in South Lake Tahoe is not as glitzy as the Nevada side, with some older establishments including hotels and motels. Access to the ski area is via the Heavenly gondola in the centre of town. There are many lodgings within a short walking distance of the gondola, but if you want complete convenience, the Marriott Hotel is right at the base of the gondola.
There are lots of great South Lake Tahoe hotels. A sure bet, and NOT a casino, is the very good
Embassy Suites (see our review) – in California. Great location with only a few minutes walk to the gondola, huge rooms, a massive complimentary breakfast and après drinks, the Embassy Suites serves it up big time.
Casino Accommodation & Stateline Hotels
The casino area is located right next door in Stateline in Nevada. The Heavenly gondola is just a short walk away from this area, and staying here provides the convenience of being able to stumble to bed after dining, gambling or too much nightlife. Whilst there are many casinos, the two biggest and most convenient are
Harveys and
Harrah’s. Great last minute deals for Stateline hotels can be available, so do your research.
Budget Accommodation
Budget options include a couple of ‘hostel’ type motels - Monaco Inn Hostel and Lone Pine Hostel (dorm rooms for about US$32). You never know who you’re going to be sharing a room with – it could be heavenly or it could be hell!!
Other Heavenly Lodging Options
Near the base of the Nevada side of the ski area there are various lodgings near the top of Kingsbury Grade. Lodging here is typically private and upscale condos.
If skiing at a range of resorts in the Tahoe area,
Reno has cheap options an hour’s bus shuttle away. Casinos like
Circus Circus and
Silver Legacy have high season rooms for only US$55 a night. The Reno casinos are all great fun!
