Shopping
Appi Kogen resort has several shops. Whilst the shopping won’t be enough to entertain shop-a-holics for long, the shops are adequate to pick up some souvenirs or very basic ski and snowboard gear.
Appi Ski and Snowboard Shops
The Resort Centre has a Pro Shop for winter gear. This ski and snowboard shop has negligible outerwear but it has lots of accessories such as gloves, beanies, socks, thermals and goggles. They also sell a small range of après boots.
Opportunities to buy hardwear such as skis, snowboards, or boots are very limited. Appi has a try before you buy system whereby you can buy demo equipment in the latter part of the season, but that’s about it.
The hotel also has a small ski and snowboard shop that sells various accessories, but no hardwear or outerwear.
Souvenir & General Shopping
Whether you’re after an Appi souvenir or the latest Hello Kitty gadget, you’ll have plenty of choice.
The largest souvenir shop is at the Resort Centre where they sell all things Appi: knick-knacks, mugs, pens, souvenir food, t-shirts that will even fit big Westerners, and Appi water. It seems like a bit of a gimmick when a ski resort sells bottled water, but the water from Appi is lovely and somewhat unique. Pick up some Appi dairy products, or at least say hello to the staff dressed up in cow outfits – mooo!
Other souvenir and sundry shops are located at the hotel and the Grand Annexe. They sell fairly typical Japanese souvenirs, snacks, beverages and basic goods such as sunscreen.
For basic grocery purchases you could try to get to the Lawson convenience store at the bottom of the access road, but for anything more substantial you’ll have the inconvenience of having to head into Morioka. So BYO anything you might need, and this includes nappies.
