Food & Nightlife

The options for restaurants and bars in the area are somewhat limited, and the nightlife is generally fairly quiet. Many people just choose to make the most of the facilities at their accommodation.

Eating OutWe would highly recommend a dining experience at Flockhill Lodge, which is on highway 73 about 21km past the turn-off to Porters towards Arthur’s Pass. The dinner menu is quite extensive and includes light appetizers as well as hearty main courses to re-fuel the body after a hard day skiing. There is a great wine selection to accompany the delicious food. The sticky date pudding is fantastic if you have any room left.

The Springfield Hotel has cheap pub meals in their very retro bistro. You can also take-away.

For day-time fare, the café in the main street of Springfield sells eat-in or take-away home made pies and other yummy goodies. The prices are very reasonable.

Bars & NightlifeAt Porters ski area the café sells alcohol but the après scene doesn’t really kick off here. Depending on the day, après can fire up at the Springfield pub. The décor is very country-pub-like, there’s a warm fire, and people from all walks of life frequent this friendly pub. The action can continue on into the evening, but the degree of nightlife can vary here depending upon the day of the week and how many people are staying there.
