Accommodation

When skiing at Porters, there is on-mountain accommodation at the Alpine Lodge. It’s located half way down the access road and is a member-run lodge available to the public. Porters is a good ski resort, but for advanced skiers it might only provide enough variety for a one to two day visit. It’s probably advisable to stay off the mountain so that you can enjoy the variety of the nearby resorts such as Craigieburn, Broken River, Mt Cheeseman, Mt Olympus, and Temple Basin.

Our recommendation would be to stay at the nearby Flock Hill lodge. Located in a beautiful setting on a working farm, the lodge offers very reasonably priced motel and cottage units, and backpacker accommodation.

Other options are the B&B (The Burn) at Castle Hill village, or the towns of Darfield and Springfield. The latter is a small rural town that has recently been put on the map by a Simpson’s doughnut (or donut as Homer would spell it). Thankfully this town doesn’t have too much in common with the Springfield town featured in the Simpsons cartoon.
