Accommodation
Furano AccomomodationThere are many different options for accommodation in
Furano to suit all budgets with 6 hotels, 30 B&Bs and pensions, 10 lodges and 2 backpackers (Alpine Backpackers and Log Yukari Backpackers).
The up-market
New Furano Prince Hotel is at the base of the Furano skiing zone and is conveniently ski-in ski-out. It has all the facilities you’d need including various restaurants, but if you don’t love the resort feel, you might get a bad case of cabin-fever here as it’s pretty isolated.
Most of the accommodation is in the
Kitanomine zone which has the advantage of access to a range of eateries and bars, but this area has the disadvantage that most of it is not ski-in ski-out.
Other options for hotels include the
Bell Hills Hotel which is very close to the Kitanomine gondola, and the
North Country Inn which offers a lot of services including shuttle buses, but is not easy walking distance to the hill or the Kitanomine night life.
Cottages include Snowflake and Cottage Yuu Yuu. Pensions include Pension Lavender, and the accommodation that we stayed at – Pension Furanui.
Pension Furanui is a two and a half star European style lodge which is a 3 minute walk to the Kitanomine gondola. There appeared to be only one staff member who spoke a little English, but everyone gets by. All rooms have ensuites with a choice of Western or Japanese style rooms. We stayed in a Japanese room which cost ¥12,000 (convert here) per night for two. The accommodation was great, although it took us a few days to get used to the hard futon on the floor. There’s a 5% surcharge if you want to pay with credit card.
Breakfasts are a combination of Western/Japanese cuisine, but they have a distinctive 'ground-hog day' feel to them. The highlight for us was the indoor onsens, a fantastic way to start or end the day. Other pluses were the easy internet access and laundry facilities. The only real downside to this accommodation is the annoying bell music that wakes you up at 7am and continues until 9pm! Pension Furanui can be booked through
Furano Alpine Travel or other travel agents.
Powderhounds has several accommodation options available for
booking online here.
