Asahikawa Accommodation
The main form of accommodation in Asahikawa is the trusty hotel. Many of the hotels are located close to the train station and the main city centre where there are lots of restaurants, bars and shops.
The hotels all have Western style rooms and cater to a variety of budgets. However for those wanting to travel on a shoe-string, there are no hostels in Asahikawa. You’ll need to go to Asahidake or Biel for this.

The Powderhounds recommend the
Terminal Hotel for good value for money for 3-star accommodation. It is conveniently located next to the train station and near car rental outlets, shops and restaurants. Rooms come in a variety of sizes and configurations. For a small standard double room it costs ¥9,200 per night (convert currency here) which includes breakfast. The buffet breakfast was a highlight for us, with a very large range of Japanese treats and a few Western ones as well. Importantly it’s possible to pay for the accommodation with a credit card (something you can’t take for granted in Japan).
A couple of the staff at the Terminal Hotel speak English, and all are very friendly and willing to help with any requests. The Terminal Hotel has internet access via one computer in the lobby for general use, and some of the deluxe rooms have wireless access. There’s a carpark next door to the hotel at a reasonable price.
If you want something a little more upmarket, the
Loisir Hotel Asahikawa could be an option.
Another example of a good downtown hotel is the
Hotel Crescent.
