Powderhorn Chateau
The Powderhorn Chateau in Ohakune New Zealand offers hotel rooms and suites, as well as self-contained accommodation. Where is the Powderhorn Chateau?
Located in Ohakune at the foot of Mt Ruapehu, the Powderhorn Chateau is located right at the start of the Ohakune Mountain Rd that heads up to the
Turoa Ski Field. Shuttle buses to Turoa depart from the Powderhorn Chateau, and the location is also very convenient because there is a ski and snowboard rental shop adjacent to the hotel.
For those mountain bike riding, the Powderhorn Chateau is situated at the start of the Old Coach Road, which is the most popular ride in the area.
The train station is just 300 metres away and it’s 2.2km to the main part of town, although you may not feel the need to go to the restaurants there considering that one of the most popular apres ski haunts is located onsite at the Powderhorn.
The chalet are a 5 minute walk away from the main hotel building.

Dining
The Powderkeg Restaurant and Bar is open year-round, and during the ski season it has the best après ski atmosphere in Ohakune, and a huge array of beers, spirits and wines on offer. The Powderkeg offers an extensive a la carte menu, and dining here is extremely popular during winter on weekends.
The Matterhorn Grill is open for dinner service during the winter months only. During the summer months the Matterhorn is open for breakfast for house guests.
