A wonderful and memorable stay!

My family and I stayed at the Okushiga Kogen Hotel from 27 Dec 2018 to 2 Jan 2019. Our experience had been fantastic from the moment we checked in till we departed on the last day. The staff were very courteous and helpful which made our stay even more pleasant. The facilities were excellent and the food choices were great. The ski slopes were also superb with great powder snow throughout the period we were there.

We would like to especially thank the wonderful team at the ski school led by Robel. They were helpful and patient in getting us equipped and ready to hit the ski slopes. Our two kids had skiing and snow boarding lessons which they thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted from. Their instructors, especially Jake and Moritz were great teachers and also made each lesson fun.

We can't wait to get back to Okushiga Kogen and would definitely recommend those who have never been there to give it a try.

Best regards,

The Shek Family

A Great Place to Stay

The Powderhounds have not yet stayed at this hotel however we have compiled an editor’s review and ratings based on trawling and summarizing dozens of reviews.

In general the hotel had very good ratings from very good to excellent. Here were some of the key points:
- The hotel was a bit isolated particularly in the evenings (but this is an issue for all the Shiga ski areas considering the lack of evening transport).
- There is a Japanese restaurant and a French restaurant and the food was said to be exceptional. However the cost of the food was on the pricey side. The other options in the area were the Italian or Japanese al a carte restaurant and the Phenix Hotel just a short walk away and an izakaya, but this was about it.
- Evidently the shuttle service only operates until 7:30pm and there are no taxis so if you are going to head to another area for dinner, you will need to have your meal early to get the last bus back (or it's a long walk!)
- The bar was said to have a nice atmosphere with its open fire.
- The staff are friendly and helpful and many speak English.
- All the rooms are non-smoking.
- The breakfasts are said to be fabulous
- The rooms were said to be slightly older style but they were warm, comfy and more than adequate
