Skiing as it should be

Make no mistake. Sugar Bowl has the best skiing in North Lake Tahoe. Don't believe the Squaw Valley hype. This place has the goods. Extreme Terrain, Tree Skiing, nice intermediate cruisers and decent beginner areas. SB averages over 500" of snow per year! When it dumps here, it is deep.
Weekends can be a bit crowded due to SB's proximity to Sacramento and the Bay Area. However, the super modern lift system(Yes there is a high speed lift on every peak here), is very efficient. Apres is pretty subdued here. Best, to get in your car and drive to nearby Truckee for that kind of fun. The historic ski-in ski-out hotel hints at yesteryear.T Not to be missed if you are skiing Tahoe.

Sweet Bowl

Sugar Bowl is a good resort. It doesn't have quite the variety as some more high profile resorts, but it has enough. Also, the crowds, value, and snow are all superb. This reads more like a Montana resort than a Tahoe one! (Which is a good thing.)
When I visited a few years ago, I was just an intermediate skiing with my dad. We accidentally got on the Mount Lincoln lift to the summit! I was pretty scared, but there are actually some great intermediate runs up there, with sweet views too!
Why I like Sugar Bowl so much is the feeling. It feels rustic, relaxed, and easy. It doesn't have tons of luxuries or accommodations, which might stink for some people, but it's cool with me!
Despite its expert reputation, the kids area at Mt. Judah was great!

Surprise Package

Sugar Bowl was a bit of a surprise package for us. We thought it was primarily just a dinky little day hill that local families frequented, yet it was so much more!

Firstly we loved the relaxed and family oriented vibe. It was difficult not to develop an attraction for Sugar Bowl!

We visited in a poor snow year, so unfortunately not all the terrain had adequate cover to tackle it, but we could see the amazing potential that the hill has and the amazing variety of terrain that it packs into its 1,500 acres with plenty of interesting terrain features, trees, and a few steep groomers.

Super underrated resort. There are steeps that people simply don't know about but will challenge anyone. Also it's for some of the best lift accessed backcountry in California.

Definitely less crowds than squaw, and more challenging and fun than the overrated North Star.

Not the best terrain parks but not bad either.
