7 Lakes Off-Piste Tour

The stunning 7 Lakes Off Piste Tour from PowderQuest is a 7 night, 8 day fully guided advanced off-piste adventure exploring the best resorts and out of bounds terrain of Northern Patagonia. The tour includes 2 full days of snow mobile accessed backcountry descents in one of Patagonia’s wildest private refugios which is a truly inimitable experience.

The tour starts in Chapelco near the beautiful mountain village of San Martin de Los Andes. Ranked Argentina’s Best Ski Resort by the World Ski Awards, Chapelco offers a great mix of open bowls, easy backcountry access, and fun tree skiing.

The next stop takes you deeper south into Patagonia to the city of Bariloche. A must visit on everyone’s travel list, Bariloche offers you access to nearby resort and backcountry destinations with outstanding terrain. Hello Cerro Catedral and sled accessed backcountry at Mallin Alto! Bariloche is also home to some of the best restaurants and nightlife this side of the Andes.

Terrain & AbilityThis tour is a guided off-piste with a blend of the best resort riding, and lift-assisted sidecountry terrain with certified bilingual guides.

To join this tour you should have a high level of fitness and be able to ride very confidently and in control on varied terrain (including steep chutes) and snow conditions (including powder and ice/crud). It is for advanced and expert skiers and boarders only.

Ends

Day 1: San Martin Airport 
Arrive to San Martin de Los Andes (CPC) airport (2 hr, 20 min flight from Buenos Aires) for a group pick up at 4:30 PM. Meet your guides and trip hosts, check into the hotel and feel free to explore the town before our evening trip introduction and welcome dinner in one of our favorite restaurants in San Martin.

Day 2: Chapelco
Every day starts with breakfast at the hotel to fuel up for the day ahead. Full day exploring on and off piste at Chapelco with a focus on finding the best snow on the mountain. The resort has some great tree skiing, open bowls, and access to some of the best backcountry terrain around.

Once the group returns to the cozy hotel, you will want to check out the beach and trails around the glacier cut, Lacar Lake, or wander around town which is filled with charming cafes, chocolate shops, and great shopping for gifts to bring home. Dinner with the guides and group on the town.

Day 3: Chapelco
After another day chasing the best snow around Chapelco, you'll venture on a drive through the stunning 7 Lakes road passing waterfalls, glacier cut lakes, old growth forest and snow capped peaks.

The evening arrival to the city of Bariloche along the Nahuel Huapi Lake shows off the bustling town filled with restaurants, bars, and tourists from around the world. Hotel check in followed by a well deserved dinner at one of the guides select local restaurants.

Day 4-5: Cerro Catedral
Breakfast at the hotel followed by a short drive up the mountains to ski Catedral Alta Patagonia and its amazing off piste and backcountry terrain. The team has been skiing here since the late 90s and know the mountain inside and out.

The day ends with dinner on the lively town of Bariloche. If you are a night owl, Bariloche is a great place to party exploring the craft brew pubs and local bars.

On Day 5 after skiing, the Patagonia adventure really kicks in! Get ready for a once in a lifetime true cowboy adventure in the southern Andes. With a fleet of 4×4 trucks, 4 tracs and snowmobiles you'll head deep into Patagonia, fording rivers, dirt roads and old growth forest to access the remote private hacienda. Welcome to Mallin Alto, sled access backcountry. Arriving at dusk, the friendly staff of Mallin Alto will have a feast awaiting you in the rustic dome style backcountry lodges where you will be based for the next 2 nights.

Day 6-7: Mallin Alto Sled Skiing 
2 epic backcountry freeriding days accessing thousands of acres of untouched snow with use of Mallin’s fleet of chauffeured snowmobiles. This is real, raw Patagonia. Return each afternoon to the dome’s main living area for apres ski featuring all you can drink wine and beer. Enjoy the outdoor hot tub watching the sunset over Patagonia and try to find the Southern Cross constellation before another pulse of snow moves in.

On the evening of day 7 you'll return to the hotel in Bariloche before heading out for the big farewell blow out dinner on the town with your guides.

Day 8: Departure Day
Breakfast at the hotel. Included in the tour is a group transfer at 10:00 AM to Bariloche Airport to meet your flight out to Buenos Aires. Please schedule your return flight to Buenos Aires anytime after 10:00. If you decide to not take the 10:00 AM shuttle, your transfer to the airport will be an additional cost payable to the driver or taxi. This can be arranged via the friendly hotel staff.

Lodging

PowderQuest has hand selected a mix of comfortable, small to medium size bed and breakfasts and inns in San Martin and Bariloche. Most are family run with cozy beds, private bathrooms, and include breakfast. All of the accommodations have free WIFI internet and relaxing social areas where you can get to know the group and enjoy a glass of Malbec wine before heading off to dinner at one of their favorite nearby Patagonian restaurants.

  • A USD 600 deposit (per person) is required at time of reservation.
  • Balance due 90 days before departure
  • PQTs accept Master Card, Visa, American Express, PayPal, bank wires. Cheques are accepted from USA bank accounts.

CANCELLATION BY YOU

Greater than 90 days from trip = deposit is applied towards a future trip. Your lifetime deposit does not expire and can be used for any available future guided trip with PowderQuest Tours. You may also transfer the deposit to a friend as a gift.

Cancellation fee within 90 days (of full trip cost):
  • 61-90 days prior to departure = 50% refund
  • 31-60 days prior to departure = 25% refund 
  • 30 days or fewer prior to departure = 100% cancellation fee
We highly recommend travel insurance to cover you should you have to cancel the trip.
