Appi Kogen Cat & BC Tour

This sample package can be customised from 2 nights or more to include any/all of the components mentioned in the inclusions & add-ons.

Appi Kogen and the Hachimantai area are still relatively unknown to foreigners and combined with huge falls of dry Japan powder, there is relatively little competition for fresh tracks.

This sample package combines resort skiing at Appi Kogen, a day of guided side country/backcountry skiing in the area, and a day of snowcat access skiing at an old ski area in Hachimantai.

It represents exceptional value considering the package also includes daily breakfast and evening meals.

Group Type:

This is a mixed group tour meaning guests will be grouped with other guests to make up numbers for the tour. You can join a tour as a solo traveller or couple, however this tour requires a minimum of 2 participants for the backcountry skiing, and minimum of 3 participants for CAT tours to operate. Ideally you would have a group of 3 or more to guarantee the backcountry & cat skiing tours to operate. Larger private groups are also welcome to book a private tour with only their own group.

Ability:

This tour is ideal for intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders with experience riding powder and back country. You don’t have to be a pro, you just need to have a sense of adventure and want to ride powder. A huge feature of this tour is riding off-piste in fresh powder, so ideally the minimum ability level is strong intermediate. However if beginner & intermediate riders want to join the tour, they can readily ride the groomed runs at Appi Kogen each day.

Guiding & Hosting:

The CAT tour will be fully guided with 2 guides per 9 participants. There will also be one day of guided back-country skiing at Appi Kogen. If your group is less than 9 members you may be with other guests.

Sample Itinerary

The follow itinerary is an example based on the sample pricing and can be customised from 3 days.

The tour commences and finishes at Morioka train station, Iwate.

Day 1 (Arrival Day)

Meet at Morioka Station at 11 am and take the bus to Appi Kogen for an afternoon of free-skiing/boarding.

Day 2 (CAT Tour)

Enjoy a full day (up to 4 runs) of guided CAT tour on the old Hachimantai Ski resort. (You need to take a boxed lunch with you this day as you won’t return to the hotel until 16:00)

Day 3 (BC Powder Tour)

Today you will have a full day of guided skiing, showing you some of the best powder back country, and tree runs available.

Day 4 (Free time and Go home)

On this last day you will have time in the morning to ski Appi Kogen, chase some of that untracked powder, brush up your skills at Appi Kogen's skill-up zone, or enjoy doing some tricks at Salomon Snow Park after checking out of the hotel.

Take the 15:15 bus back to Morioka Station. (Earlier bus back to Morioka is also available.)
