Central Hokkaido Splitboard Tour - New!

The fully guided 8-day Central Hokkaido Splitboard Tour with Journey Into Japan explores some of the best backcountry locations in Central Hokkaido.

Splitboards have made the Central Hokkaido backcountry more accessible to boarders, where long lines and deep powder are just waiting for those awesome turns!  Experienced local guide Hiro Komatsu is a splitboard specialist with in-depth backcountry knowledge of Central Hokkaido, and he is taking dedicated splitboard groups out into the backcountry. Ditch those pesky skiers and become part of this dedicated splitboard tour, and enjoy some of the best lines in Central Hokkaido.

The trips starts in either Furano or Asahikawa, and the first section of this tour takes place at Asahi Dake, which features high open slopes amongst the volcanic fumaroles, and amazing lines amongst the steep and deep gullies below. Asahi Dake has a single ropeway (cable car) which is used as a starting point to the incredible backcountry and sidecountry routes available.

Then it’s on to the spectacular Tokachi Mountains for more deep open lines up high, and endless cruising amongst the trees. The Tokachi mountains are pure backcountry. No lifts, just beautiful wilderness. At the end of a strenuous day you can head back down to the inn to enjoy a traditional onsen.

Transport throughout is provided by your guide in a private 4WD mini bus.

Ability & Experience

You will need to have advanced boarding skills to take part in this trip, and very good physical fitness as much of the trip will involve the use of climbing skins to ascend the mountains. Experience with the use of splitboards and skins is ideal.

You must have a splitboard and properly fitting skins for this tour. These are available from the hire shop in Furano along with a full range of backcountry equipment and 10% discount on equipment rentals is provided. If you are new to splitboarding, you have the bonus of learning how to use the boards and associated equipment (skins, beacon, etc).
