Hokkaido Powder Trip

This trip starts in the iconic ski resort of Niseko where you will spend four days skiing some of the lift-accessed side-country terrain in the area. Niseko is in the west of Hokkaido and is renowned for huge accumulations of snow and for exceptional tree skiing.

You will then travel to the west coast Hokkaido resorts. The west coast resorts are the first to receive snow from the Sea of Japan. Low humidity levels produce some of the lightest consistency powder in the world.

Each day you will ski and ride Hokkaido’s famous powder and finish by bathing in thermal hot-springs, and in the evenings treat yourself to gastronomic local Japanese cuisine.

If you were to only ski Japan once, this would be the trip to do.

Skier/Boarder AbilityYou should be an advanced to expert skier or boarder for this tour. A few days will involve short sections of snow shoeing/skinning to access more terrain. To make the most of your trip it is recommended that you have a good level of aerobic fitness.

AccommodationYou will stay in hot spring hotels in Niseko and on the west coast, with breakfast included daily. 5 dinners will be included.
ItineraryThis tour begins in Niseko and ends at Asahikawa Airport.

Day 1
Arrive in Sapporo. Transfer to Niseko, the powder skiing capital of Japan.

Day 2
The first guided day you will be sampling some of Hokkaido’s famous powder. There are stunning views of the Sea of Japan and Hokkaido’s Mt Fuji. The widely spaced birch offer world-class tree skiing. Our last run finishes at a local outdoor thermal hot spring called the Pool of Five Colours.

Day 3
Travel to a nearby resort and ski some amazing powder runs. The off-piste areas funnel back to the lifts so it will be a big day of powder riding. On the return journey soak in an outdoor thermal spring that has views of the Mt Fuji of Hokkaido.

Day 4
Ski a local's favourite ski field. Finish the day at a soba restaurant and watch the master make the buck wheat noodles before you.

Day 5
Today we travel to the coastal resort which is famed because it gets more snow than even the Niseko area. The snow here will not disappoint and is often very deep in the trees. Transfer to traditional ryokan hotel for the next three nights.

Day 6
Today we travel to a coastal resort where there are views of the ocean. The area has some of the steepest terrain in Hokkaido.

Day 7
The last day you will be riding some of the out of bounds terrain at one of the local Sapporo resorts.

Day 8
Transfer to the airport or your next destination.
