Hideout Lodge Overview

Hideout Lodge is a luxury backcountry basecamp lodge located in the awe-inspiring wilderness of the Sierra, California (near Kirkwood ski resort).

It offers guests the opportunity to escape the hustle & bustle for a few days and experience the superb terrain and snow conditions in the area or to simply unplug and reset. This part of the Sierra averages around 600 inches (Over 15 metres) of quality powder snow; enough to keep any Powder Hound smiling!

Daily activities include:
  • ski touring & split-boarding for novices to the backcountry to uber experts
  • heli-assisted backcountry ski touring & split-boarding days
  • sledding in the backcountry

Ski Touring & Split-Boarding

Ski touring and split-boarding has the option of being guided (included in the cost) or you have the option to self-guide. The lodge staff can assist you in planning your daily expeditions dependent on your goals, the current snow conditions and your ability. Daily expeditions can be short and sweet, keeping the lodge in plain view, or full day excursions further afield.

With adventures for guests of all levels, it’s their intention to provide a safe and comfortable space for first timers and seasoned pros alike.

Heli-Assisted Ski Touring & Split-Boarding

For intermediate to expert level riders, there is the option (for an additional fee) of adding a heli-assisted ski or split-board tour to the Sierra Buttes. These days are fully guided and take in some of the best terrain you will find in the Sierra.

Sledding in the Backcountry

From the lodge, you can access terrain that’s diverse and great for riders of all levels. The property itself has rolling granite slopes sparse with trees, flat open meadows (ideal for beginners), and epic features. For day excursions, ride directly to an abandoned ski resort or watch the sunset at one of several nearby viewing points. Experienced riders may want to load up their snowboard or skis and venture beyond our peaks to terrain just waiting to be ridden.

Kirkwood Ski Resort

Why not combine a day of two of skiing at Kirkwood Resort (Lake Tahoe’s steepest and deepest commercial runs) as a warm-up or cool-down prior to or after your Hideout Lodge experience. Hideout Lodge can offer discount lift tickets so it's hard not to take up the opportunity!

The Lodge

All activities are ultimately subject to weather and snowpack stability as guest safety is the number 1 priority. To prepare for days with poor weather, the lodge offers a number of great amenities & services.

The aim of Hideout Lodge was to combine the backcountry ski hut experience with something much more refined. To bring luxury amenities, elevated cuisine, and cozy accommodations to the remote, awe-inspiring wilderness of the Sierra.

If you’re not skiing or riding, you can enjoy the outdoor sauna or outdoor hot tub and let any stress melt away. Join one of the yoga gatherings or relax with a massage.

Head over to the western saloon bar for a game of billiards and experience gourmet food with wine pairings.

Upon arrival, each guest will receive state-of-the-art safety equipment including a 2-way radio, avalanche beacon, probe, snow shovel, backpack, and optional airbag backpack. In addition, the group will gather for a thorough avalanche safety orientation.

The lodge has guides on staff that are certified by the American Mountain Guide Association, are Wilderness First Responders, and keep daily record of snow stability and conditions at all times. The Sierra Buttes heli-assisted BC tour is guided by some of the industry’s best.

The basic package shown in the example above is based on 3-nights twin-share accommodation, inclusive of gourmet meals, use of avalanche safety equipment, safety briefing, guiding, base-camp support, use of all lodge amenities, snowcat shuttle to lodge from pick-up point and group yoga sessions.

There is a huge array of add-ons & up-grades to enable you to build your dream package. Click here to inquire & start the discussion with one of Hideout Lodge's staff.
