The Powder Triangle Tour


You will need a rest after this this action-packed powder chasing adventure that is the Powder Triangle Tour in Hokkaido! Ride many of Hokkaido's premium powder spots hitting the best locations based on the best conditions each day. The tour starts in Central Hokkaido with a base in Furano (3 nights) and then the vibrant city of Asahikawa (3 nights). The final base is the seaside town of Otaru (2 nights). 

Whilst the accommodation locations are set, the itinerary regarding which ski area to hit up is somewhat flexible depending on snow and weather conditions because it's all about powder hunting.

The Powder Triangle Tour is a freeride tour for strong intermediate (in powder), advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders who are willing to do a little hiking to earn the absolute best tunes.  It's a fast riding, powder seeking, mountain hiking, line seeking, face-shot collecting, onsen dipping, ramen eating tour.

Group Type

The tour is for mixed groups so you can join as a solo traveler, a couple or small group.

If you have your own group, the tour can be customised (pending guide availability) for private groups of 4 or more. You can enquire for a quote here.


Potential locations could include: Furano, Tomamu, Tokachidake, Asahidake, Kamui, Teine, and Sapporo Kokusai. Depending on the timing of ropeway opening, there is also the potential to hit up the highly renowned Kurodake.


You should be a strong intermediate, advanced or expert (off-piste) rider that is very comfortable and fluid in steep terrain and tight trees, and be able to ride at a decent speed. You should also be physically fit and willing to hike a little and have some competency with touring. Please enquire if you have any questions about required ability level.

Avalanche safety equipment is essential and must be used and is available to rent for the entire tour. You will be trained on how to operate a transceiver, probe & shovel at the beginning of the week and this will be checked daily.

Guiding & Hosting

The tour will have 1 guide for up to 6 guests. Guides hold the following qualifications: ARM Level 5; Stage 1 Avalanche; Level 3 Snowboard Instructor and Trainer level 2 Ski Instructor; plus they have Wilderness First Aid. The guides also have many years of experience driving in blizzard conditions in Japan and hold Heavy Vehicle License and a Hazardous Area Authority.

This tour starts in Furano with the option of transfer there from Niseko or the New Chitose Airport and finishes with the options of the Otaru train station, Niseko or the New Chitose airport.

This is an example of how the tour is expected to run, however weather and snow conditions may ultimately determine the daily activities.

Day 1 (Arrival Day)

You will transfer to Furano from Niseko 11am or CTS 2pm. Check-in to accommodation in Furano then beers at Ajitos. 

Day 2 (Furano)

First riding day at Furano, you will check out the off-piste terrain and steep trees.

Day 3 (Tomamu)

You will travel to Tomamu and shred the famous side-country and backcountry bowls, and tree runs.

Day 4 (Tokachidake)

Hiking day at Tokachidake followed by an onsen. You will then head to Asahikawa to check-in to Court Hotel.

Day 5 (Asahidake)

Full-day on the giant that is Asahidake. Hiking and riding, you'll check out the fumaroles then have beers at The Den.

Day 6 (Kamui)

You'll be driven to Kamui for an awesome day of shredding at Kamui Ski Links.

Day 7 (Teine)

Early start for the drive to ride the Teine chutes and side country. Check-in to the Grand Park Hotel in Otaru.

Day 8 (Sapporo Kokusai)

Full-day shredding the trees and bowls of the side & back-country. Beers & dinner at the Otaru Beer Hall.

Day 9

Drop off at Otaru Station, CTS or transfer to Niseko.

Not Included

Tours Conditions

All pre-booked tours. Payment of 20% of the balance is due within 14 days of booking confirmation being sent. The balance is due in full by Dec 1 2019.

Cancellation by the customer after 20% deposit is paid will result in loss of deposit. Cancellation after full balance has been paid and prior to 30 days of commencement of tour will result in loss of 50% of total price of tour. Changes due to conditions and weather maybe alter the itinerary to increase participant enjoyment.

Additions or upgrades outside the agreed price, will be invoiced separately please note that a cancellation on medical grounds prior to the tour will require a doctor's note confirming that you are in an unfit condition to participate in any snow sport activity. If you cannot provide a doctor's note then no refund will be offered.

Tours cancelled by the operator whilst highly unlikely will be refunded in full.
