Myoko Deep Tour

The Myoko Kogen area is renowned for its abundant snow falls and fabulous tree skiing. The Myoko Deep Tour from GoodGuides gives you the option of either lift-accessed sidecountry or going deeper into the backcountry via ski touring/split boarding/snoeshowing.

This backcountry tour incorporates many of the ski areas around Myoko. You will potentially ski at any of the resorts within the vicinity of Myoko including Akakura, Ikenotaira, Seki Onsen, Suginohara, Madarao, Tangram, Togakushi, Shiga Kogen, Nozawa Onsen and more.

Goodguides have over 10 years experience of skiing in central Japan giving them an intimate knowledge of the local mountains, weather patterns and local culture. Owner and operator Jerry Williams has fluency in the Japanese language and his love of Japanese culture will ensure you get well rounded trip with the absolute best in both skiing and culture.

All guides are professionally trained and qualified and are in the field everyday and know the conditions and terrain inside out.

The guides also have an extensive network in the local community enabling them to access local knowledge and information from the surrounding snow community.

Ability & Fitness

These tour is aimed at skiers and riders who are strong intermediate (off-piste) to expert. Depending on the option you choose, the tour involves a lot of up-hill hiking on skis, split board or snow shoes so you will need to have a very good level of fitness. Side country and ski touring groups will be split accordingly.

Equipment Required

You will have avalanche safety gear supplied as part of the package, however you will also need touring gear which could be skis with touring bindings & skins, a split board with skins and/or snow shoes. Goodguides has a range of back country rental at great rates.

Itinerary

This tour is based in Myoko.

Day 1:

Transfer to Myoko to where your guide will be waiting to greet you. From there your guide will give you an introduction to the local area, make sure you have everything you need and deliver you to your hotel for some relaxation before your dream ski trip begins.

Day 2:

Free ski day to get your ski legs back and make sure all your gear is working well. This gives you time to get any equipment rentals you may need and pick up any gear that you haven't brought with you!

Day 3-7:

Your professional mountain guides will decide the best place to ski each day. Your first morning will start with an in-depth avalanche safety briefing and training. This will give you the confidence to use your equipment with the aim of giving you more skills and knowledge to take away with you at the end of the trip.

From Myoko you will potentially ski at any of the resorts within the vicinity of Myoko including Akakura, Ikenotaira, Seki Onsen, Suginohara, Madarao, Tangram, Togakushi, Shiga Kogen, Nozawa Onsen and more.

Day 8:

Wind up the trip with a day of free skiing and or transfer back to the airport or your next destination.

Accommodation

Myoko Lodging
Mon Repos Lodge is located in a ski-in ski-out position at Akakura Kanko Resort at Myoko Kogen, and only a short walk to the Akakura Onsen village with its many restaurants.

The lodge has a wonderful cosy mountain lodge vibe. It is family-run and there are 3 generations of Japanese hospitality that really make the lodge special.

The lodge has a communal area with a fireplace and bar.

The rooms have western beds and some rooms have private bathrooms, whilst others utilise shared bathrooms.

Daily breakfast is provided as part of the package and other meals can be arranged with reservation the night before. Dinners are delicious and incorporate locally sourced ingredients including delicious seafood from the nearby coast. Every meal is unique and comes with several small dishes.

The lodge has a computer for guest use and wifi is available. There are laundry facilities on-site.

Good Guides Terms and conditions

Deposit & Balance
50% deposit is required to confirm your booking. Full payment is due 60 days prior to the start of the tour. If the tour is booked within 60 days of departure, full payment is required to confirm.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellation within 60 days but 30 days prior to the tour will incur a tariff in the amount of 50% of the full tour cost. Cancellations within 30 days will incur a tariff in the amount of 100% of the full tour cost. Goodguides reserves the right to cancel any tour at any time (typically due to inclement weather, unsafe backcountry travel conditions or guide injury / sickness). In the event of cancellation, the customer will be offered the opportunity to either reschedule or receive a full refund.
