Alps to Coast Tour (Hakuba & Myoko)

For the 2022 season, this tour is available as a PRIVATE CUSTOMISABLE TOUR.

You can choose from lift-accessed backcountry or complete backcountry ski touring/split boarding or a combination of both....it's up to you and your group.

Please enquire to discuss your requirements.

Here is a sample of what the tour might look like...

The Alps to Coast Tour takes in a wide range of ski areas throughout the Nagano and Niigata prefectures. These trips will be based out of Hakuba and Myoko but may travel to places such as Shiga Kogen, Nozawa Onsen, Madarao and many more smaller resorts in the area in search of the best snow....the aim is to ski deep powder all day! When the group can do this from the lifts, you will lap it up all day or if it has not snowed for a few days you will ski tour or take short boot packs to make sure you are skiing the best snow possible.

The Hakuba Alps are without doubt the most impressive mountain range in Japan with 9 ski areas in the valley plus limitless backcountry. Only a small number of people who visit the area ever venture into the backcountry due to its very steep and potentially dangerous conditions. Experience, qualified guides with local knowledge and experience are essential for your safety.

The Myoko Kogen area is renowned for its abundant snow falls and fabulous tree skiing. From Myoko the guides are able to access a huge range of resorts and mountains that have varying weather patterns. This means your guides have many options to take you to the best spot on the day.

GoodGuides are not only highly qualified mountain guides, they also have an extensive snow community network enabling them to access local knowledge and information.

Ability & Fitness

These tours are aimed at skiers and riders from strong intermediate wanting to gain more backcountry experience to advanced/expert skiers and riders.

Equipment Required

You will have avalanche safety gear supplied as part of the package. Ski touring groups will also need touring gear which could be skis with touring bindings & skins, a split board with skins and/or snow shoes. Goodguides has a range of back country rental at great rates.

These tours can also be customised to your dates and group (subject to availability). Enquire here for a custom quote>>

Advanced bookings are essential as these tours book out well ahead of time.

This is a sample itinerary but it's up to you and your group regarding what you'd like to achieve. Please enquire for a bespoke tour for your group.

Day 1 (arrival day):
Transfer to Hakuba to where your guide will be waiting to greet you. From there your guide will give you an introduction to the local area, make sure you have everything you need, and deliver you to your hotel for some relaxation before your dream ski trip begins!

Day 2 to 4 (ski/ride Hakuba area):
Goodguides professional mountain guides will decide the best place to ski each day. Your first morning will start with an in-depth avalanche safety briefing and training. This will give you the confidence to use your equipment with the aim of giving you more skills and knowledge to take away with you at the end of the trip.

From here you will potentially ski at any of the 9 resorts within the Hakuba Valley and also other non-ski field access back-country locations.

Day 5 (Transfer to Myoko):
There is the option to ski in Hakuba and transfer in the evening, or transfer early in the morning to ski in the Myoko area. Or there are also ski/snowboard options along the way. This will be decided depending on where the best snow conditions are.

Day 6 to 8 (Ski/ride Myoko area):
Again your guides will decide which areas to ski at each day. Options include any of the resorts at Myoko or short trips to Madarao/Tangram and Togakushi amongst other options.

NB If you choose to take up the option of cat skiing, the day for this will be dependent on the best snow conditions at the cat ski operation.

Day 9 (Departure day):
Wind up the trip with a free day of skiing and or transfer back the airport or your next destination.
