9 Day Fresh Powder Adventure!

This was my first powder highway trip with Fresh Adventures and it was so much fun!. I would recommend doing a tour with this company. It was very well organized, the hotels were clean, comfortable, great local restaurants and breweries. It was a pleasure riding with and experiencing the local Canadian culture with our guides Margot and Sam. With their knowledge and experience of the mountains we had some amazing fresh powder runs and challenging tree runs.

What a tour!

From the very first interaction with the company that runs this tour, we've had nothing but a pleasurable and easy experience. Alex was very responsive via e-mail and was able to-do everything we asked, including booking a private bus to Whistler at the end of the tour. He was very relaxed and informative during the booking process. Then we began the tour in Banff and met our tour guides, Darren and Chris. We honestly had the best time with these guys. Chris and Darren made our trip so easy and enjoyable. Nothing was ever too much trouble (even when I forgot my boarding boots at the hotel and they had to take me back to grab them). They went above and beyond to ensure we were having the best time at all times. They knew the mountains and terrain they were taking us on well and encouraged us todo tracks (and hikes) that we would never had done on our own. They found fresh powder even when it hadn't snowed in days and were always conscientious of our boarding abilities. They were incredibly knowledgeable, they were respectful, they were professional and they were fun. They just fit right in and we felt like they were apart of our group, it was actually sad to say goodbye to them. This was a fantastic 9 days and I would recommend this tour and this company to anyone considering travelling to Canada to ski and snowboard. Thank-you to Alex, Darren and Chris.

I went on the powder tour with fresh adventures in late February. Their professional guide, Margot, provided us with great opportunities to ski runs that challenged each level of skier. Excellent hotels, places to dine, beautiful scenery and wonderful skiing. Also, a tour guide that has a passion for her profession and a warm personality that made each day a new “fresh adventure”!

Powder Highway Tour

I joined two fresh adventure winter tours and enjoyed both immensely.
The first was the powder highway tour and 2nd was the rockies.

For the powder highway tour, Margot was our lead guide. Margot is bubbly, encouraging, easy going and caring. Everyone on the tour loved her. I cannot do her justice through my review but if you're lucky enough to get her as your guide, you'll see what i mean.

Alex was our guide for the Rockies tour. I was happy to meet Alex since he's in all the reviews! Alex is passionate about guiding and wants to make everyone have a great experience. He is friendly, energetic and open. Even though he is the owner of the company, his down to earth nature makes him very relatable and I found his honesty about his life experiences endearing. I appreciated Alex's flexibility and to customize my 2nd tour to fit my schedule.

I have been on overseas snow trips with friends and now with a tour group, so i can appreciate the pros and cons of both. If you want to travel but you're friends are unavailable, I definitely recommed trying Fresh Adventures if you want to check out Canada's snow resorts. You may be with a group of all different ages and experience levels, but because everyone loves skiing/boarding, that common interest does bring people together.

The advantages for me doing a fresh adventures tour rather than organising it myself were (not in a particular order):

Dinner reservations made every night ( people are free to also do their own thing). I loved that i didn't have to think of where to eat!
And all the restaurants chosen were good picks.

The guides packed up our snow gear in the van. No lugging around your gear to your accomodation after a tiring day at the snow.

The guides drive the van all the way to the resort's entrance! I felt so spoiled that i didn't have to walk far with my board. Very nice especially after a tiring day. No waiting for a shuttle bus to take you back to your hotel or driving on unfamiliar icy roads.

There may be opportunities to meet people that are a lot more advanced, and therefore they challenge you to improve (this was my experience as an intermediate boarder. Of course an advanced skiier/boarder will have a different experience).

Having guides that know the mountain. This is not a ski school so you won't get coaching (however Alex still gave me some tips along the way). From my experience, the guide will be with the advanced skiers/boarders group because they can explore more terrain and this is where a guide is invaluable. Beginners and intermediate levels may not get to be with the guide because they do not require as much guidance around the mountain. However the guide will still point out what runs are appropriate.

The small group size makes it easy to get to know everyone. And it's fun meeting new people on holidays.

The cons are the cost. The cost of tours (in general, not just Fresh Adventures) may be a bit more expensive than doing it yourself or organising with friends. However, i found this tour a lot less stressful and more convenient than going solo or even as a pair. I think it's worth it- especially if you choose the powder highway tour. You'll go to mountains that are out of the way and therefore less crowded. I got the impression that the mountains on the powder highway tour are where locals go.
Even the towns you stay in will be less touristy and therefore food is a lot cheaper! I know i wouldn't have gone to these resorts if i was with friends because they are more difficult to get to.

Overall, I'm really happy to have experienced both tours. Personally i preferred the powder highway because I liked the runs more on those mountains. However, if you are a beginner/ early intermediate, then the Rockies tour may be more suitable because the runs aren't as steep. Of course, confirm with Alex (because he knows the mountains a lot better than me). If you prefer a more energetic night life, Banff (you'll stay here on the Rockies tour) is the place to be. So both tours can cater for different interests.
