Motel Doesn’t Aptly Describe the Studios

23/08/2019
The Moorings Motel and Apartments is somewhat like a motel in that the studios aren’t accessed via an interior corridor and you can easily park your car right at your door. However when I conjure up thoughts of a “motel” I think of very basic accommodation with 80s décor and The Moorings was soooo much more deluxe than a “motel”.

The studio we stayed in was very spacious and lovely (and great wifi). It had a very basic kitchenette that was small and only had very limited crockery and cutlery, so it wouldn’t be very functional for anything other than very no frills meals. The room offered fantastic views across the lake, but there weren’t 2 layers of curtains like you find in a lot of places, so there was either zero privacy (anyone could walk on the lawn right outside the room) with the blinds closed or a fully darkened room. The bathroom was a bit weird. It offered disabled access but the shower curtain didn’t reach the floor so shower water sprayed all across the floor (luckily the underfloor heating was excellent to dry it out) and it had the tiniest little shelf to put a toothbrush on, but no room for any other toiletries.

The location was phenomenal with the best of both worlds: proximity to all the cafes and restaurants; views across the lake and quietness.
