Mt Taylor Lodge

Mt Taylor Lodge

Mt Taylor Lodge has high quality accommodation in a lodge that is small enough to have the cosy feel of a bed & breakfast establishment. The lodge features beautiful stonework, and is graciously furnished and decked out with stylish interiors, making it feel very inviting and comfortable. Yet the rates are at a fraction of what you’d expect for simple luxury.

Where is Mt Taylor Lodge? Mt Taylor Lodge is located in Lampard St, Methven New Zealand, only a few minutes walk from the main part of town. The accommodation makes a great base for skiing or boarding at one of the many ski areas near Methven including Mt Hutt ski resort.

Rooms There are 11 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms that are set up in a variety of configurations. The rooms are simple but stylish, and from some rooms it’s possible to appreciate the spectacular backdrop of Mt Hutt and surrounding mountains.

The accommodation style is probably most suited to singles, couples and those travelling in pairs, however rooms can be joined to accommodate small groups and families.

Facilities The highlight of the lodge is the delightful communal area where many an embellished story of heli-skiing is told around the fire. Other facilities include a computer room with internet, wireless internet access, laundry, drying room, ski storage and tuning facilities, TV room, and a BBQ area. The lodge also has an indoor spa tub - a great place to soak the weary body after a hard day on the ski slopes.

Dining Breakfast is part of the package which includes cereal, fruit, croissants, eggs and great coffee. Nick Taylor, the lodge owner and host will do a great job to contribute to your caffeine addiction with his commercial coffee making machine.

There is a large modern communal kitchen that you can use to cook lunch and dinner, otherwise the town restaurants are only a three minute walk away.

Why Stay at Mount Taylor Lodge? Mt Taylor Lodge gets the big thumbs up from the Powderhounds who have had the privilege of staying there on several occasions. The lodge has lots of personal touches, and it’s a huge advantage to have a host who can provide lots of advice on tourist activities and tips on where to ski.

The rates are very reasonable and they include breakfast and the awesome coffees! With these prices there is no need to stay at a budget place. Stay in style instead.

Mt Taylor Lodge is THE place to stay in Methven. Nick is a great host. Great breakfasts and conversations with other skiers. Comfortable rooms. Has a very European ski chalet feeling and my room had views to the mountains (facing west). It's right in the center of town and easy walk to a number of restaurants and bars.

I've been here twice now this season. I'm from eastern Canada. Once in July and also in September. Firstly, Nick is a wonderful host--very welcoming. He cooks up a fabulous full bacon and egg breakfast in the morning. He is a first class Barista. His cappuccino is better than Starbucks.

There's a warm, cosy lounge and fireplace as well as a full kitchen if you want to cook your own meals. Occasionally, Nick will whip up a first class dinner superior to what's available in Methven. It's a 4 minute walk to the centre of town and restaurants and supermarkets.

In the morning, after breakfast, the Snowman shuttle stops right at the door to take you to Mount Hutt and drops you off at the door in the afternoon. Very convenient and effortless. Ski storage, boot dryers, and full laundry facilities are provided so you don't have to lug tons of ski clothes across the ocean.

The room itself is very comfortable. Great bed. Good 3 piece bath. Warm and toasty. Great shower pressure. Abundant hot water. Flat screen TV. Etc. Etc. Not noisy. As a guest, you are afforded as much privacy as you want--like in a hotel but can also choose to interact as much as you want with other guests and with Nick since this is a cosy, comfortable B&B.

All in all, I had a great time notwithstanding the less than ideal ski conditions this season at Mt. Hutt. I hope to be back next season. I miss Nick's great cappuccinos already. I would highly recommend this accommodation to skiers/boarders. Excellent value!

From the reviews I had read I knew it was going to be a good pick, but until I arrived, I didn't realise how good. Nick the owner is so accommodating and great to have a chat to during breaky or after a day on the slopes. Breaky which is included and by all reports is a continental style, actually includes bacon & eggs cooked by Nick. His coffee is also amazing!
The rooms are a great size, especially the room I was lucky enough to have overlooking the snow capped mountains. Comfy bed, central heating and strong hot shower.
There is a large kitchen with everything you need should you want to cook otherwise the restaurants and pubs in town are a 2 min walk away.
There is also a nice lounge and dining room with fireplace where the guests can sit and chat at the end of the day.
It felt like home which was nice as i was a solo female travelling to learn to ski for the first time. I will definitely stay again should I be in the area. Keep up the good work Nick :)

I stayed 5 nights at the Mt. Taylor Lodge while snowboarding with Mint Tours in the Methven area and enjoyed every moment of my stay. Nick is a gracious host and a top notch cook. Meals were varied and excellent, presenting the best of locally sourced produce and meat, tastefully prepared and presented.

The accommodations are comfortable and the reception is relaxed, warm and welcoming.

I would return at the first opportunity and can highly recommend Mt. Taylor Lodge for your stay in Methven.

We had a great couple of nights (9&10 August 2013) at the Mt Taylor Lodge - very clean and everything you could hope for. Nick the owner is brilliant at making you feel at home and ensuring you could want for nothing. ...many thanks.

The facilities are great, with a big kitchen for self catering, a cosy lounge with a log-wood fire, spacious bed room with en-suite, free Wi-Fi and a big drying room for your ski gear.

Nick offers a lovely breakfast and makes a superb cup of coffee. Location is excellent and within an easy walk to all the restaurants in Methven.

Working in Christchurch, we decided on a weekend break to Mt. Hutt to check out the ski fields. We found Mount Taylor lodge on this website (thanks guys!). What we found was a perfect place to stay & a perfect host. We arrived with weekly washing in luggage, which was taken care of straight away whilst we enjoyed the skiing experience on Mt. Hutt.

The rooms were great, the beds very comfortable, everything was clean & the do it yourself kitchen was excellent.

Nick served a fantastic breakfast & one of the best coffees we had found on the south island. It was a shame it was an hour from Christchurch, as we would have considered staying there for the period of our work.

Would definitely recommend this on your list of places to stay in NZ.

Great lodge this one. Everything you could want and very reasonably priced. Comfortable bed, warm rooms, good shower. Great lounge and other guest facilities. Nick is a genuinely good bloke and knows the local fields inside out.

My mates and I stayed at the eponymous Mt. Taylor Lodge for a few nights while making our way from Christchurch to Queenstown.

Nick is a wonderful host, and we had a great time at the Lodge. The Lodge was very clean and well appointed, and Nick sets out a great breakfast spread (and serves great lattes too!). WiFi is available and is very fast.

Only ask I could have would be for a large hot-tub, but good luck finding those anywhere - they simply aren't as prevalent as they are in the states.

Mount Taylor Lodge is a fantastic place to stay, nothing else compares in Methven. It is a really warm, comfortable place, very relaxed and it is always good fun - it seems to attract great people.

Nick is a superb host and always has good advice on the conditions and which are the best ski fields for any given weather. Most people think that Mt Hutt is the only ski area locally but Nick can direct you to around 4 extra club fields and 1 commercial ski field within an hour or so's drive. Also there is heli skiing out the back so you can stay for a week and ski a different field every day.

Mt Taylor Lodge was by far the best place we stayed in New Zealand. Nick welcomed us with a sort hospitality that is rare to find. We felt like we finally made it home. The lodge is clean, modern, and beautiful. It was the perfect place to stay during ski season. Nick helped us with transportation to and from the ski area. Easy, fun, and affordable!!
